Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Central government has started Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. PM Narendra Modi launched PMFBY scheme back in the year 2016 to help farmers in the event of crop losses. New PMFBY Rules from Kharif 2026
Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has changed the rules of the scheme over the last two seasons. The biggest change starts with Kharif 2026, and it covers two problems farmers had been raising for years.
Wild animal attack cover: Crop loss caused by wild animals is now the fifth add-on cover under the Localised Risk group. States will notify which animals count, usually elephants, wild boar, nilgai, deer and monkeys, and will mark the districts or insurance units where this happens often. Farmers in Madhya Pradesh and other states will get the most out of this.
Paddy inundation cover: Damage to paddy from water standing in the field is back as a localised calamity. It was dropped in 2018 because it was hard to assess. Coastal and flood-prone states gain the most from this change.
Report within 72 hours with photos: For both these covers, the farmer has to report the loss within 72 hours through the Crop Insurance App and upload geotagged photographs of the damaged field. Without the photo proof the claim will not move ahead.
