PM Vishwakarma is a central government scheme for traditional artisans and craftspeople who work with their hands and tools. Registration for 2026 is open, and the scheme gives skill training, a toolkit grant, and loans without collateral at low interest. The scheme runs till 2027-28, and more than 30 lakh artisans have already registered across India.

In 2026 the scheme started its rollout in West Bengal, and the government has been adding new support like onboarding artisans on GeM and ONDC for marketing. Anyone working in one of the 18 traditional trades can register through a Common Service Centre (CSC) near them.

PM Vishwakarma - Introduction

PM Vishwakarma was launched on 17 September 2023 on Vishwakarma Jayanti by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MoMSME). The scheme has a budget of ₹13,000 crore for five years, from FY 2023-24 to FY 2027-28, and it is fully funded by the central government.

The scheme helps artisans in 18 family-based traditional trades get official recognition as Vishwakarma, upgrade their skills, buy modern tools, take business loans at 5% interest, and sell their products in bigger markets. Registration is done free of charge through Common Service Centres using biometric Aadhaar verification. No CSC or agent can charge money for registration.

PM Vishwakarma 2026 Update - West Bengal Rollout

West Bengal started the official rollout of PM Vishwakarma in May 2026. After the new state government gave its approval, the MSME Ministry began the implementation process from 22 May 2026. Around 7.79 lakh artisans from West Bengal were already enrolled in the scheme, and the state has now set up its State Monitoring Committee and District Implementation Committees for a smooth rollout.

All India progress of the scheme till May 2026 is very strong. The target of registering 30 lakh applicants was already crossed in September 2025. By May 2026, more than 24 lakh artisans had completed basic training, over 16 lakh had received the ₹15,000 modern toolkit, and around 5.94 lakh had got loan sanctions, with total loans crossing ₹5,000 crore.
