Punjab Ashirwad Scheme 2026: Apply Through Sewa Kendras, Check Status & Download Form PDF

Punjab state govt. runs the Ashirwad scheme (earlier known as Shagun Scheme) to give ₹51,000 financial support for the marriage of a girl child. The scheme is open for girls from Scheduled Caste (SC), Backward Classes (BC) and economically weaker sections (EWS) families. The government renamed the earlier Shagun Scheme to Ashirwad Scheme and raised the amount over time.

There is an important update for applicants. From January 28, 2026, applications under the Ashirwad Scheme can be submitted only through Sewa Kendras. Applications sent through any other method will not be accepted. So applicants need to visit their nearest Sewa Kendra to file the application for this scheme.

Punjab Ashirwad Scheme Apply Online

This scheme offers ₹51,000 to women from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other backward classes for marriage. To get the benefit, the applicant should be a permanent resident of Punjab and a BPL card holder. Two women of each family are eligible to get the benefit. As per the scheme rules, the money is credited directly into the beneficiary's bank account, which should be linked with Aadhaar.

Since applications are now accepted only through Sewa Kendras, here is the process to apply for Punjab Ashirwad Scheme.

STEP 1: Visit the nearest Sewa Kendra centre in your area with all the required documents. From January 28, 2026, applications for the Ashirwad Scheme are accepted only through Sewa Kendras.

STEP 2: The Sewa Kendra operator will open the official Ashirwad portal at ashirwad.punjab.gov.in and fill the online application form.

STEP 3: Provide all the required details and attach the documents in the application form. Click the "I Agree and Save" button after filling the details.

STEP 4: Submit the form after checking all the details. An application number will be given at the end. Note it down for future reference or for checking the status of the application.

The application details and documents are reviewed by the officials. If approved, the benefit amount is directly deposited in the Aadhaar linked bank account of the beneficiary.

Applicants have to confirm that they have been residing in India for at least 182 days in the preceding 12 months. The applicant's information (including bio-metrics) is used for generation of Aadhaar and authentication.

Eligibility Criteria for Punjab Ashirwad Scheme

The applicant must meet the below mentioned eligibility criteria to get the benefits under this Ashirwad Scheme:-

• Applicant should be a permanent citizen of Punjab state.
• The family of the applicant must belong to the below poverty line (BPL).
• Applicant must belong to the Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and other economically weaker families.

Raising Amount under Ashirwad Scheme

Under the Shagun Scheme, the government was giving ₹15,000 as financial support for the marriage of a daughter from a poor family. This was later increased to ₹21,000. Then, with the name change from Shagun to Ashirwad Scheme, the state govt. kept providing financial support of ₹21,000 to girls from poor families. Later, the Punjab Cabinet on 28 April 2021 approved a hike in the financial support under the Ashirwad scheme from ₹21,000 to ₹51,000 per beneficiary, with directions to clear all payment backlog under the scheme.

This was the second hike in the scheme amount by the present government, which had earlier raised the support from ₹15,000 to ₹21,000 soon after it took over in 2017, while renaming the Shagun scheme as Ashirwad scheme. The hike in Punjab Ashirwad Scheme came into effect from 1 July 2021. At that time, the state Cabinet also decided to make payment directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through the online banking management system. The scheme is run by the Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities department.

This financial support is only for girls who are above 18 years. The Chief Minister clarified that the scheme also applies to Muslim girls of 18 years or above, along with Scheduled Caste, Christian, Backward Class / Caste, Economically Weaker Section families, and daughters of widows of any caste. Scheduled Caste widows / divorcees are also entitled to the benefit at the time of their re-marriage.
