Uttar Pradesh government runs the Kukkut Palan Karj Yojana (Poultry Farming Loan Scheme) to help people set up self-employment in the state. Under this scheme, eligible people can apply and register to start a poultry farm, which creates more job options in this sector. The Yogi government provides subsidized bank loans for poultry farming, just as it does for animal husbandry, so that people can start their own business. The state government has also released an attractive and practical poultry development policy under this scheme to promote the poultry business.

The Uttar Pradesh Poultry Development Policy aims to benefit small poultry farmers. The state government is providing different types of support to encourage such businesses. Farmers and young people can secure a steady income through the poultry farming scheme. Farmers can also raise their income by doing animal husbandry and poultry farming along with regular farming. This is a big step toward the Prime Minister Modi's aim of doubling farmer income.

Uttar Pradesh Poultry Farming Loan Scheme Application Process

Under the poultry farming scheme, the state government provides a subsidized loan to set up a poultry farm. The poultry farmer has to pay a part of the cost, and the state government covers the rest. Under the poultry farming subsidy scheme, the Uttar Pradesh government will also provide the license and cleanliness certificate.

Under the poultry development policy, a poultry farmer can set up a commercial unit of 30,000 birds or a commercial unit of 10,000 birds. To run a commercial unit of 30,000 birds, the poultry farmer needs to spend about ₹1.60 crore, of which the beneficiary has to arrange ₹54 lakh and the remaining ₹1.06 crore is passed as a bank loan as per rules.

For a commercial unit of 10,000 birds, the poultry farmer needs to invest about ₹70 lakh in total, of which ₹21 lakh is the beneficiary's share and ₹49 lakh is passed as a bank loan. To get the benefit under this policy, any small or big farmer or young person can apply at the office of the Chief Veterinary Officer.

Under the Uttar Pradesh Poultry Development Policy 2022, the government provides a loan of up to ₹70 lakh for poultry farming. The government also bears up to 7% of the interest on the loan, and stamp duty is waived on buying land for the farm. Beneficiaries also get free electricity for five years. The application process is fully offline. You can get the application form and full help from the Animal Husbandry Department office in your district's Vikas Bhawan. What Is Needed for Poultry Farming

For higher egg production, the best breed of white chicken in our country or abroad is the White Leghorn. For meat production, breeds like Cornish, New Hampshire, Aseel, and Chittagong are used. For poultry farming, always choose hens that lay big eggs. While selecting a good hen, keep the following points in mind. A good hen has a wide and broad head, not a narrow or round one. The comb is red and shiny, the belly is big, and the skin is soft and flexible. The pubic bone is wide and the vent is oval. The things needed to open a poultry farm are given below:

  • A poultry house
  • Containers for feed and water
  • A brooder
  • Improved breed chicks or grown hens
  • Vaccines, medicines, and drugs to protect against diseases
  • An egg laying box
  • Arrangement for light or electricity
  • A market or haat where the business will be done

Good breed hens lay about 250 to 300 eggs in a year, while desi hens lay only 50 to 60 eggs. These hens should be sold after laying eggs for a year because their egg laying capacity drops, which reduces the profit from income. In poultry farming, feed alone takes up 65 to 70 percent of the cost. So, weak hens and those laying fewer eggs should be culled regularly.

Points to Keep in Mind While Building the Poultry House

Farmers or people who are about to start poultry farming should keep the following points in mind while building the house:

  1. Build the house on a raised surface.
  2. Do not build the hen house in a place that gets too much sun, too much cold, or heavy rain.
  3. Use asbestos, grass, straw, palm leaves, or tiles to cover and roof the house.
  4. The floor of the hen house should be at least 10 inches above the outside ground and should be made of concrete if possible, so that rats and snakes cannot make holes.
  5. The walls of the hen house should be strong, partly open, and closed on three sides so that air can come in from one side.

Under the Uttar Pradesh Poultry Development Policy 2022, 298 commercial layer farming units of 30,000 birds and 268 commercial layer farming units of 10,000 birds are running in the state.

These units produce an extra 100.58 lakh eggs every day. Similarly, 23 broiler parent farm units of 10,000 birds are running, which produce an extra 24.60 lakh chicks every month. Under this scheme, about 78,000 people in the state have got self-employment.

Balanced Diet for Hens

1) To keep hens healthy and productive, they need enough water, sugar, fat, protein, minerals, and vitamins. A diet that keeps hens healthy, helps them grow well, and makes them lay more eggs is called a balanced diet.

2) Poultry farmers can prepare the feed mixture at home. If there is any problem in preparing it at home, they can buy a ready-made mixture from the market and feed it to their hens. Chicks get their first feed 48 hours after hatching. Clean water should always be available for the chicks.
