Background of Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana Policy
PMSBY was launched in May 2015 as a government backed accidental death insurance scheme. At that time, only 20% of India's population had any kind of insurance, and this scheme was made to increase that number. Suraksha Bima Yojana is mainly for people who are not covered under any insurance scheme, especially in rural areas.
PM Suraksha Bima Yojana is available for all, but it was launched keeping in mind people from poor families and those who cannot afford the insurance plans of private or public sector companies. In case of accidental death of the account holder, the nominee can claim the insurance cover. For more details, visit the official website at jansuraksha.gov.in.
