Ayushman Card registration is open in 2026 under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), which gives free health insurance of up to ₹5 lakh per family every year to eligible families across India. National Health Authority (NHA) runs the scheme and lets eligible people register for the card online at beneficiary.nha.gov.in.
Over 43.5 crore Ayushman Cards have already been made across the country, and more than 36,000 hospitals are now part of the network for cashless treatment. As of 2026, the scheme is active in all 36 states and union territories, with West Bengal being the latest to join.

Ayushman Card Latest Update
Managing your Ayushman Card has become easier now. You can link your Aadhaar number to your card and update your details without doing eKYC again. You can also check your card status anytime and download it easily. In the Union Budget 2025-26, the government set aside ₹9,406 crore for the scheme, the highest amount since it started. As of early 2026, there are over 36,000 empanelled hospitals, including a mix of public and private facilities, where you can get cashless treatment.
Another big update is the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card. Now all senior citizens aged 70 years and above can get ₹5 lakh free treatment every year, with no income limit and no SECC condition. If a family already has an Ayushman Card, the 70+ member gets an extra ₹5 lakh on top, taking total cover up to ₹10 lakh.
Ayushman Bharat in West Bengal 2026
West Bengal has joined Ayushman Bharat PMJAY in 2026, ending a long gap during which the state ran its own health scheme. After the BJP government came to power in the May 2026 Assembly elections, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that the scheme will officially roll out across West Bengal from July 1, 2026. The state and NHA signed a Memorandum of Understanding on June 8, 2026 to formalise the rollout.
Until now, West Bengal ran the state-funded Swasthya Sathi scheme, which started in 2016. Around 6 crore Swasthya Sathi beneficiaries are expected to move into the Ayushman Bharat network in a phased way. The Union Health Ministry has approved a healthcare package of about ₹3,505 crore for the state to support the rollout.
A few things West Bengal residents should keep in mind during the change:
- Your Swasthya Sathi card stays valid at empanelled hospitals until a formal transition notice is given, so do not throw it away. Both schemes run side by side during the transition.
- Swasthya Sathi was almost universal in the state, but Ayushman Bharat is based on SECC 2011 data, so you must check your PMJAY eligibility separately at beneficiary.nha.gov.in.
- The biggest gain is pan-India portability. A West Bengal resident can now get cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals anywhere in India, which helps the large number of migrant workers from the state.
Hospitals across Kolkata and other districts have already started onboarding, and the empanelled hospital list keeps expanding as the rollout moves ahead.
