Mukhyamantri Jan-Van Scheme is a state scheme of Jharkhand government that helps farmers earn extra income by planting trees on their private land. Department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change of Jharkhand manages this scheme and supports eligible landowners with 75% of the plantation and maintenance cost, which makes tree farming profitable for farmers.
Interested farmers can register at the official portal janvan.jharkhand.gov.in, and the forest department also publishes a fresh advertisement in local newspapers every year in September. As of August 2026, the scheme is open for new participation and payments are being made directly into the bank accounts of selected beneficiaries.
Mukhyamantri Jan-Van Scheme - Introduction
Mukhyamantri Jan-Van Scheme was launched by Department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Government of Jharkhand to increase green cover in the state. Farmers plant trees on their own land, and the scheme gives them 75% share of the plantation and maintenance cost. This helps with groundwater conservation, reduces pressure on notified forests, and creates a long-term income source for landowners.
Plantation can be done in two ways under this scheme: block plantation on a plot of land and linear plantation on the boundary of the field. Plantation work is spread over three years, and the incentive is paid year-wise based on survival of trees. Minimum land limit for a beneficiary is 0.5 acres and the maximum limit is 50 acres.
Objectives of the scheme
Main aims of Mukhyamantri Jan-Van Scheme are:
- Increase green cover across the state and keep the environment balanced.
- Protect groundwater through tree plantation and soil conservation.
- Produce forest products on private land so that pressure on notified forests comes down.
- Improve farmer income by using private land for tree plantation.
- Raise forest cover in the state with public participation.
