PM-KUSUM Yojana (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) is one of the biggest solar energy schemes for farmers run by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India. The scheme gives farmers up to 50% subsidy to set up solar pumps and solar power plants, helping them cut irrigation costs and even earn extra income by selling surplus solar power back to the grid.

Big update for 2026 - MNRE has extended the PM-KUSUM scheme deadline to 31st March 2027 for all eligible projects whose Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) were signed on or before 31st December 2025. This extension gives farmers and states more time to complete their solar installations. The scheme targets adding 34,800 MW of solar capacity with a total Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of ₹34,422 crore. Also, PM-KUSUM 2.0 is being planned, which will add Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to store extra daytime solar power for use during evening peak hours.

How to Apply Online for PM-KUSUM Scheme 2026?

Applying for PM-KUSUM online is a simple process. Just follow these steps carefully to register as a beneficiary and get your solar pump subsidy or loan sanctioned.

STEP 1 - Go to the official PM-KUSUM portal at pmkusum.mnre.gov.in and look for the Farmer Registration button on the homepage.

STEP 2 - Click on Farmer Registration and fill in your basic details like Farmer Name, Mobile Number, Aadhaar number, and Address in the application form.

PM-KUSUM Scheme Deadline Extended to March 2027

MNRE officially announced in April 2026 that the completion deadline for eligible PM-KUSUM projects has been extended to 31st March 2027. This applies to all projects under the scheme where Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) were signed on or before 31st December 2025. States and farmers who had already started the process but could not complete due to delays now get extra time to finish their solar installations and claim subsidy benefits. This is a big relief for thousands of farmers across the country who were worried about missing the earlier deadline.

What is PM-KUSUM 2.0?

The government is planning to launch an upgraded version called PM-KUSUM 2.0. This new version will include Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) as a major addition. BESS will store the extra solar power generated during the day and release it during evening peak demand hours, which will help keep the electricity grid stable. This upgrade will make PM-KUSUM even more useful for farmers and the broader power grid, especially during periods of high electricity demand in the evening.

Objective of PM-KUSUM Yojana

PM-KUSUM was launched on 8th March 2019 with clear goals around energy security and income support for farmers. Here is what the scheme aims to do for the farming community across India.

  • Reduce dependency on diesel and electric irrigation pumps and bring down farming costs.
  • Promote the use of clean solar energy in agriculture across rural India.
  • Increase income of farmers through sale of surplus solar energy to DISCOMs.
  • Make sure farmers get daytime electricity for irrigation, especially in rural and remote areas.
  • Help farmers use barren land to earn income by setting up solar power plants.

Components of PM-KUSUM Yojana

PM-KUSUM has three major components, each targeting a different aspect of solar energy adoption in agriculture. Here is a quick look at all three before we go into the details.

Detailed Explanation of Each Component

Component A - Decentralized Solar Power Plants

  • Farmers, cooperatives, FPOs, panchayats, and DISCOMs can install 500 kW to 2 MW capacity solar plants on barren or cultivable land.
  • The solar power generated will be purchased by DISCOMs at Feed-in Tariff (FiT) set by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC).
  • DISCOMs will get Performance-Based Incentives (PBI) of ₹0.40/unit or up to ₹6.6 lakh/MW for 5 years.
  • Farmers who cannot invest can lease their land to developers or DISCOMs and earn regular rent income.

Component B - Stand-alone Solar Pumps (Off-grid)

  • Made for remote locations without grid connectivity where farmers have no reliable electricity supply.
  • Subsidy structure: 30% CFA by Central Govt, at least 30% by State Govt, and remaining up to 40% by the farmer. With bank loan option, farmers can pay as little as 10% upfront.
  • Special provision for North Eastern States, J&K, Ladakh, HP, Uttarakhand, A&N Islands, and Lakshadweep: 50% CFA, 30% State subsidy, and only 20% farmer share.

Component C - Solarisation of Existing Grid-connected Pumps

Under Component C, farmers can solarise their existing electric pumps. Solar PV capacity of up to 2 times the pump capacity (in kW) is allowed. Farmers can use solar power for irrigation and sell surplus electricity to DISCOMs. For Feeder Level Solarisation (FLS), entire agriculture feeders are solarised and power plants can be developed through CAPEX or RESCO mode for 25 years. The subsidy is 30% of installation cost (up to ₹1.05 Cr/MW), and for special states, up to 50% (up to ₹1.75 Cr/MW).

  205. Hi Sir,

    I have registered under PM Kusum Yojana through kusumyojana-online.in site and got a call from 9477056187 and they asked for documents (Photo, PanCard, Aadhar Number , Bank PassBook and Plot number) for verification and i had provided those details without any investigation.

    After verifying documents they send approval documents which means your documents are valid and asking for registration amount 5,600 Rs. Without investigation I have paid the registration amount to him on shared account details.

    After an hour they were asking for an agreement amount of 33,500 Rs. Then I realised that I was a victim of fraud and then asked him for cancellation of application and return my registration amount. He is saying it will take 15-20 days .

    Actually I did not fall in doubt because they share documents with your logo.

    Please suggest and do the needful,

    • kusumyojana-online.in is a fake website, so do not send any registration amount or any other amount, also do not share your personal and basic details with the fake website as your privacy may be compromised.

  219. It is very sad to note that a farmer will never be able to avail PM-KUSUM scheme as there is nothing that takes him to that page on the MNRE website so that he/she can apply to avail benefits from the scheme.
    There are lots of document on the scheme at MNRE site, but not one that enables him/her to apply for getting a solar pump installed in the farm. Solar water pump is one of the important mechanism to encourage green energy, as we understand. But, to our dismay it is too difficult for a farmer to utilise the scheme as there is no way to even find an application to apply for the scheme. What is the use of announcing such a scheme when one cant even apply.
    Very disappointed.

    I want to start Solar Power Plant at my Agriculture Land, Because at my location Barmer, Rajasthan here is no chance of ground water or any other source. I wanna start this Plant to erase the electricity problem for my near by areas. And I need for 1 MW Plant in my 8 Bigha (1.5 Hectare) Land.
