Haryana government continues to build pucca roads connecting farm fields to villages under Mukhyamantri Kisan Khet Sadak Marg Yojana 2026. Rural Development Department has already paved more than 3,580 kilometres of khet-khalihan roads across 90 assembly constituencies, spending over ₹639 crore on the work so far.
Scheme was launched on 1 November 2018 to connect farmers' agricultural land to road network. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini's government has kept scheme running, and fresh road works keep getting sanctioned under it every year. In April 2026, for example, 25 kilometres of kaccha paths in Jind district alone were cleared for paving under this scheme.
Mukhya Mantri Kisan Khet Sadak Marg Yojana 2026
Rural Development Department carries out work under Mukhyamantri Kisan Khet Sadak Marg Yojana, which is funded through broader Haryana Gramin Vikas Yojana. Every assembly constituency gets provision for paving up to 25 kilometres of kaccha farm paths with bricks, or up to 15 kilometres with interlocking paver blocks. Roads under 5 karam width are covered, along with village link roads, phirni and other rural works.
Main aim of scheme is to connect farmers' land to road network so produce reaches markets easily. Cost of transporting crops comes down once roads are pucca, and farmers get a better price since less time is wasted in transit. Wastage of crops also comes down because goods move from field to market faster.
Budget and Progress So Far
Haryana Gramin Vikas Yojana, under which this road scheme runs, had an outlay of ₹700 crore for 2023-24 which was later raised to ₹1,200 crore through a supplementary grant. Money released under this head also covers community centres, rural stadiums and other village works besides khet-khalihan roads.
State government keeps announcing fresh sanctions district by district. Chief Minister has been personally announcing khet-khalihan road works during public visits, such as Jind rally in April 2026 where 25 kilometres of paths were cleared for construction along with other development projects worth ₹253 crore.
Registration of Farmers Cultivable Land
State government also runs a system where farmers get their cultivable land registered twice a year, giving details of crop sown and area under cultivation. Farmers can give these details at common service centres set up at village level. Registration helps in procurement, compensation, insurance and bank loans. Department of Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare checks the registration, and village patwari verifies it on ground.
Focus on Crop Diversification
Along with roads, state government pushes farmers to move from traditional crops to vegetables, fruits, flowers and medicinal plants, which fetch better returns. Government has also promoted peri-urban farming near Delhi, Faridabad, Gurugram and Noida so farmers can supply milk, fruits, flowers and eggs to nearby big markets.
