TN Free Sanitary Napkin Scheme 2024 is going to be launched by the Tamil Nadu state government. In this Tamilnadu Menstrual Hygiene Program, govt. will provide free sanitary napkins to women in urban areas. As per the government order, TN govt. examined the proposal of Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. The state govt. has sanctioned Rs. 44.15 crore for the TN Free Sanitary Pads Scheme.

TN Free Sanitary Napkin Scheme 2024

In the TN Free Sanitary Napkin Scheme 2024, the state govt. of Tamil Nadu will provide free sanitary napkins to government school girls in urban areas. Besides, women inpatients at government medical institutions would also get free of cost sanitary pads under the menstrual hygiene programme. The Free Sanitary Pad Scheme, which is being implemented in the rural areas in Tamilnadu for about 9 years, will now be extended to urban areas at a cost of Rs. 44 crore. 

Major Beneficiaries of Free Sanitary Napkins Scheme in Tamilnadu

The Tamil Nadu state govt. would procure sanitary napkins for girls in the 10-19 age group in urban areas at a cost of Rs. 34.74 crore. Moreover, the state govt. will also procure sanitary pads for inpatients in the 15-49 age group at a cost of Rs. 9.4 crore under Free Sanitary Napkins Scheme in Tamilnadu. 

Delivery of Pads in Free Sanitary Pad Scheme in Tamil Nadu

Here is how the delivery of pads would be carried out under the Free Sanitary Pad Scheme in Tamil Nadu:-

  • The sanitary pads are going to be directly delivered to government schools under Free Sanitary Pad Scheme in Tamil Nadu.
  • An acknowledgement would be obtained by the urban health nurse.
  • The urban health nurses will also go to the ICDS every Saturday along with Anganwadi workers.
  • Urban Health Nurses and Anganwadi workers will then distribute the health kits to girls who are not part of government schools.
  • Urban health nurses will also distribute the kits to postnatal mothers during home visits. 
  • The Free Sanitary Napkin Scheme in Tamil Nadu is set to cover close to 1,000 health centres in the metro cities and several schools in Tamil Nadu state. 

The central govt’s menstrual hygiene programme was earlier implemented in Tamilnadu state by former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in 2011. The then Free Sanitary Pad Scheme had covered several rural areas in the state benefiting thousands of people.

Dignity Kits in Free Sanitary Napkin Scheme in Tamilnadu

The state govt. will provide Dignity Kits in Free Sanitary Napkin Scheme in Tamilnadu. Each of the given dignity kit would contain hygiene and sanitary items apart from other items to cater to local needs of women and girls of reproductive age in particular communities. This Tamil Nadu Free Sanitary Napkin scheme is already under implementation in the rural areas and is now extended to the needy in the urban areas. This would ensure in providing a generic hygiene to the people in urban areas as well.
