PM Van Dhan Yojana 2026 - TRIFED Portal Registration, Eligibility and Van Dhan Kendra Details

Central government is running Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana (PMVDY) through TRIFED and the trifed.tribal.gov.in portal. Ministry of Tribal Affairs has sanctioned 4,465 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs) across 29 states and union territories, and 2,507 of these are already operational. Total funding of ₹609.32 crore has been sanctioned for these centres so far.

Scheme covers 27 states and 307 districts having forest produce and a large tribal population. PM Narendra Modi had launched this scheme on Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti, 14 April 2018, at Chhattisgarh. PM Van Dhan Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana and Gobar Dhan Scheme are among the flagship welfare schemes of the central government.

Scheme started in the first phase in 115 aspirational districts and now covers most tribal areas of the country. It makes sure tribal gatherers get value addition and fair prices for minor forest produce (MFP) through a 3 stage value addition process. Collection and sale of MFP make up 40 to 60 percent of tribal families' yearly earnings, and value addition can double or triple this income.

Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana 2026 to Setup Van Dhan Vikas Kendras

PM Van Dhan Yojana (PMVDY) uses the traditional knowledge and skills of tribal gatherers and adds branding, packaging and marketing support to raise their income through a market led enterprise model, by setting up Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVK). As per the updated TRIFED structure, one Kendra now has 10 tribal Van Dhan Vikas Self Help Groups (SHGs), each with up to 30 MFP gatherers or artisans, so around 300 beneficiaries per Kendra. Van Dhan Karyakram under Ministry of Tribal Affairs is working toward setting up thousands of such Kendras in tribal areas across the country.

Ministry of Tribal Affairs is the nodal department at central level and TRIFED is the nodal agency at national level for this scheme. Budget of Ministry of Tribal Affairs has grown by over 200 percent in the last decade, from ₹4,296 crore in 2013-14 to ₹14,926 crore in 2025-26, which supports this scheme and other tribal welfare programmes.

PM Mera Van Mera Dhan Mera Udyam Scheme

PM Van Dhan Scheme has good potential to help tribal families. Government is focusing on joint work with Panchayati Raj institutions. Scheme builds on the traditional knowledge and skill sets of tribal communities, adding technology and IT support for value addition. In forested tribal districts, government is setting up tribal community owned Van Dhan Vikas Kendras wherever possible.

Scheme now also works along with Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) for the most vulnerable tribal groups. In 2026, a Van Dhan Vikas Kendra was set up at Dugong Creek in Little Andaman for the Onge tribe under this joint effort, and the Onge VDVK also took part in Adi Mahotsav 2026, the national tribal festival held in New Delhi in March.

Van Dhan Yojana Engaging Tribal Forest Produce Gatherers

As the nodal agency at national level for Van Dhan Yojana, TRIFED provides support at every stage. TRIFED is involved right from the first stage of gathering and harvesting forest produce, which includes tree-borne oilseeds, flowers, herbs, barks, leaves, honey and various natural spices, through to primary processing, product development, packaging, transport and marketing.

Minor Forest Produce Development - Minor forest produce gives both daily support and cash income to people living in or near forests. Around 57,000 out of 3,61,500 target beneficiaries onboarded so far.

Research and Development - TRIFED sponsors research on a number of MFPs. Around 12,000 out of 23,000 target beneficiaries onboarded so far.

Retail Marketing - For the social and economic development of the tribal population, TRIFED runs retail outlets in strategic locations across the country. Around 1,04,400 out of 1,27,000 target beneficiaries onboarded so far.

PM Van Dhan Yojana State Wise Implementation Status

To roll out Van Dhan Yojana at state level, several Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVK) are set up, each made up of tribal Self Help Groups (SHGs) covering about 300 tribal forest gatherers per Kendra, grouped together to run sustainable micro business operations. TRIFED trains members, upgrades their skills and provides equipment and toolkits for processing, along with ongoing mentoring support, so that routine but important activities at each VDVK continue without a break.

PM Van Dhan Scheme aims to generate livelihood for tribal families by using non-timber forest produce and the true wealth of the forest (Van Dhan), estimated at around ₹2 lakh crore a year. Procurement through SHGs under PM Van Dhan Yojana

Government carries out grass root level procurement through SHGs along with other implementing agencies. Other government departments also work alongside existing SHG networks such as Ajeevika. All SHGs get training on sustainable harvesting and collection, primary processing and value addition.
