Odisha's 1 kW rooftop solar scheme under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is accepting applications through Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms. Under the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model, a domestic consumer can get a complete 1 kW rooftop solar system with an upfront payment of just ₹1,875, and the meter rent can be paid on EMI.
Normally, installing a 1 kW rooftop solar system costs around ₹65,000 to ₹75,000. With central and state subsidies of ₹55,000 (₹30,000 central + ₹25,000 state), the consumer's share drops sharply under this scheme. This scheme is made for middle-class and low-income households who want to switch to solar but cannot afford high upfront costs.
