PM-KUSUM Deadline Extended to March 2027
In a major development, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has officially extended the completion deadline for eligible PM-KUSUM projects to 31st March 2027. This extension applies to projects whose Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) were signed on or before 31st December 2025. The extension gives states and farmers much-needed relief to complete solar installations that were delayed for various reasons. This is very good news for thousands of farmers and state agencies who had started work under the scheme but were running behind on timelines.
What is PM-KUSUM 2.0?
The government is also planning PM-KUSUM 2.0, an upgraded version of the scheme that will include Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). BESS will store extra solar power generated during the day and release it during evening peak hours. This will improve grid stability and make sure farmers and the grid can benefit from solar energy even after sundown.
Text at the beginning of the New Guidelines of PM Kusum Scheme
Government of India has taken various policy measures to increase the installed power generation capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030. To provide energy and water security to farmers and improve their income, reduce diesel use in the farm sector, and reduce environmental pollution, the Government of India launched PM-KUSUM on 08.03.2019.
During 2020-21, the scheme was scaled up and expanded from its pilot stage and notified with due approval of Ministry of Finance. In August 2022, the scheme was extended till March 2026. Now in 2026, MNRE has further extended the deadline to 31st March 2027 for eligible projects, making sure no farmer or state misses out on the scheme's benefits.
