Launched on 1 April 2020, Jai Bangla Pension Scheme, also known as Joy Bangla Prakalpa, gives a uniform monthly pension to eligible people. As of 23 August 2026, more than 82 lakh eligible people across the state are covered by this pension support.

The application process is easy and can be done from home. Follow these steps to apply for Jai Bangla Pension Yojana:

STEP 1 - Download the Jai Bangla Pension Scheme Application Form PDF from the below direct PDF link or collect the paper form free from the Block Development Office, Sub-Divisional Office or Kolkata Municipal Corporation office.

STEP 2 - Fill in personal details like name, address, Aadhaar number, bank account details and choose the correct pension type such as Old Age, Widow, Disability (Manabik), Taposili Bandhu, Jai Johar, Farmers or Folk Artist pension.

STEP 3 - Attach the required documents with the form and get self-attestations done wherever asked.

Amount under Jai Bangla Pension Scheme

The new Jai Bangla Pension Scheme works as an umbrella scheme and replaced the old separate pension structures across the state. The pension amount under Jai Bangla Pension Scheme is uniform for most sub-schemes, that is every eligible person gets ₹1,000 per month. Old age pension, widow pension and disability pension, which earlier came with ₹600 or ₹750 per month, now offer ₹1,000 per month for every eligible person.

Coverage of Sub-schemes under Jai Bangla Pension

Jai Bangla Pension Scheme has merged the majority of existing social security pension schemes into one common portal and system. The main sub-schemes under this roof are:

• WCD Old Age Pension for senior citizens aged 60 years and above, managed by Women and Child Development department.
• WCD Widow Pension for widows aged 18 years and above under Women and Child Development department.
• Taposili Bandhu old age pension for the Scheduled Caste community aged 60 years or more.
• Jai Johar old age pension for the Scheduled Tribe community aged 60 years or more.
• Manabik disability pension for persons with 40% or more disability.
• Farmers, Fishermen, Artisan and Weaver old age pensions for workers in these occupations.
• Lok Prasar Prakalpa pension for folk artists and tribal artists.

New SC / ST Pension Schemes under Jai Bangla

The two new pension schemes introduced under Jai Bangla Pension Scheme are Taposili Bandhu for the Scheduled Caste (SC) community and Jai Johar for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community. These are separate old age pension schemes within the umbrella and provide the same ₹1,000 monthly pension as other sub-schemes.

For Taposili Bandhu, the candidate should belong to the SC category, while for Jai Johar, the candidate should belong to the ST category. The candidate should also be above 60 years of age and an ordinary resident of the state.

Eligibility Criteria for Jai Bangla Pension Scheme

The eligibility rules are common for most of the sub-schemes, along with a few caste or occupation rules. The general conditions which a candidate must meet are given below.

• Applicant must be an Indian citizen and ordinary resident of West Bengal.
• Applicant should not be already getting any other government pension or private company pension for the same purpose.
• Age limit depends on the scheme, for example 60 years or more for old age schemes, 18 years or more for widow and disability schemes have no age bar.
• A bank account and updated Aadhaar details are required so that the DBT payment can reach the applicant directly.

The form can be submitted at the Block Development Officers office when the applicant lives in a rural area. In municipal or notified areas outside Kolkata, it goes to the Sub-Divisional Officer, and for residents of the KMC area it goes to the Commissioner, Kolkata Municipal. Duare Sarkar camps also accept these forms from time to time.

Verification and Approval of Application

All applications received are checked by the BDO, SDO or KMC commissioner for eligibility. The per-name list for eligible persons is then shared with the district magistrate, who approves the application for final sanctions. Then the main department (Backward Classes Welfare or Tribal Development for SC / ST schemes) does the final approval and sends the pension amount through DBT.

Payment and Death of Pensioner

Pension is paid centrally from the West Bengal government directly to the bank account of the eligible person on the first day of the month. If the recipient passes away, the pension for that month is given to the nominee named in the application form, and then the pension is stopped.

Applicants can check their pension status, approval status and payment details on the official SAMARTH portal. The portal was started as containing all social pension schemes of the Finance Department, Government of West Bengal.
