Telangana government has rolled out new smart ration cards for over 1.05 crore families, covering around 3.4 crore people across the state. CM Revanth Reddy launched the statewide distribution on 15 August 2026 from Sangareddy, and district ministers handed over cards in all 33 districts on the same day.
New card is a plastic PVC card, about the size of an ATM or debit card which will replace the old paper ration card. The new PVC card will be equipped with a photo, an encrypted QR code and nine security features, so it is hard to fake and does not tear or fade like paper cards. This new card will be provided free to all the beneficiaries.
How to Apply for Telangana Smart Ration Card
If you already have a ration card which is also called as the Food Security Card in Telangana, you do not apply again for the smart PVC card. The cards have already been printed and sent to the districts and mandals, and are being distributed through your local fair price shop and district events.
If you do not have a ration card yet, you first need to apply for a new Food Security Card, and once it is approved you will automatically get the new smart PVC card. Here step by step process to apply for a new card in Telangana.
STEP 1 - Visit your nearest MeeSeva centre or open the EPDS Telangana portal at epds.telangana.gov.in and go to the application form for a new Food Security Card under the Civil Supplies section.
STEP 2 - Fill in the form with details of the head of the family and all family members, and attach the required papers like Aadhaar cards, address proof and a passport size photo of the head of the family.
STEP 3 - Submit the form at the MeeSeva centre or online, and note down the reference number so you can track your application later. There is no fee to submit the application.
STEP 4 - Complete Aadhaar e-KYC with biometric verification for all family members at your ration shop or MeeSeva centre, as this is required for the card to be approved and for the smart card to work.
STEP 5 - Once your Food Security Card is approved, your new PVC smart card is printed and given through your local fair price shop. You can also check your Telangana ration card status online using your reference number.
Download and Link the T-Ration App
To use the new smart ration card, you need the T-Ration app on your phone. On this app, you can link your card, check your ration items and scan your QR code at the shop. You can download the app from Google Play store at this link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fsc.app.tg_nic_fsc&hl=en_IN
STEP 1 - Open the app and enter your ration card number to start the linking process. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.
STEP 2 - Enter the OTP to verify, then set an M-PIN of your choice. This M-PIN keeps your card details safe and is used to open the app next time.
STEP 3 - Once linked, you can see your family members, your monthly ration items like rice, sugar and wheat, and your past ration history inside the app.
At the fair price shop, you can either scan the QR code on your card or give your card number. After that, any eligible family member does a biometric check, and you get your ration.
G2C Services Offered Through the T-Ration App
T-Ration app has a G2C module, which means Government to Citizen services. These are the services the government gives directly to people so they can check their Food Security Card details, the stock given to fair price shops, monthly transactions on their card, real time stock at shops, the status of Release Orders paid by dealers, and shop locations on a map. The G2C services in the app are:
- FSC Search - Search your Food Security Card application and card details.
- RC (Ration Card) Allocation - see the ration allocated to your card for the month.
- RC (Ration Card) Transaction - check the transactions made on your card each month.
- Current Stock at FPS - see the real time stock available at your fair price shop.
- FPS Allocation - check the stock allocated to a fair price shop for the month.
- RO Status by FPS - see the status of Release Orders paid by a fair price shop dealer.
- RO Status by RO Number - check a Release Order status using its RO number.
- FPS Locations - find fair price shops on a map.
