Punjab government has launched Meri Dukan Mere Naam scheme on 8 October 2026 so that shopkeepers running rented or leased shops of Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats can become owners. Applications are open till 6 November 2026 at the local body offices.
Any shopkeeper who can prove 12 years of legal possession of the shop before 1 April 2020 can apply. Price is fixed as a share of the collector rate, starting at just 12.5% for families earning below ₹3 lakh a year.
How to apply for Meri Dukan Mere Naam scheme
No online portal was announced at launch. Shopkeepers have to apply at the office of the urban local body that owns the shop. The scheme covers 116 urban local bodies across Punjab.
STEP 1 - Collect proof that you have run the shop for at least 12 years before 1 April 2020. Any valid proof works, such as a GST certificate, old electricity bills or a voter card with the shop address.
STEP 2 - Visit the Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council or Nagar Panchayat office that owns the shop and submit your application with the documents before 6 November 2026.
STEP 3 - A committee at the SDM level checks your application and papers.
STEP 4 - A committee at the Deputy Commissioner level fixes the price as per the collector rate and your income group. The local body then passes a resolution for the transfer.
STEP 5 - Pay the fixed amount to the local body to get ownership of the shop in your name.
