WB Sabooj Sathi Scheme 2024 has been launched by the West Bengal government. Now the state govt. has decided to distribute 20 lakh bicycles to the students studying in Class 9th to 12th. The official website for the scheme is wbsaboojsathi.gov.in. People can now track bi-cycle distribution status, file grievance by filling complaint form and can make student login.
Sabooj Sathi Scheme 2024
Under the CM’s flagship Sabooj Sathi Scheme, around 84 lakh students have been provided with bicycles to go to school. The scheme bagged the prestigious World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) award under the United Nations. The state government of West Bengal had decided to distribute 10 lakh bicycles to the students during the ongoing financial year. CM Mamata Banerjee has instructed the officials concerned to double the volume.
Objectives of WB Sabooj Sathi Scheme 2024
The main objective of Sabooj Sathi Scheme is to enhance student access to secondary education. The Sabuj Sathi Scheme is further expected to:-
- Increase retention in schools,
- Encourage students to take up higher studies,
- Inculcate sense of confidence among the girl students by promoting mobility,
- Promote environment-friendly and healthy means of transportation.
The objectives are aligned with four Sustainable Goals of agenda 2030. These are SDG3: Good Health & Well-being, SDG4: Quality Education, SDG5: Gender Equality and SDG13: Climate actions.
Present Status for WB Sabuj Sathi Scheme
Since 2015, more than 82 lakh students have received bicycles under the scheme. Around 1 crore students are being covered. CM Mamata Banerjee launched Sabooj Sathi Scheme which reflects her desire to see young students empowered to achieve new feats in the future through the bicycles. She also created the scheme logo which is firmly attached in the basket in front of the bicycle. Hon’ble CM flagged off the distribution in October 2015 from Paschim Medinipur.

STEP 4: In the School Record page, select the district, block, school, phase, class and click at the “Search a Beneficiary” tab to track the bi-cycle distribution status through online mode.

Complaint Form for Sabooj Sathi
All the applicants can submit any grievance related to Sabooj Sathi by clicking at the “Please Submit Any Grievance related to Sabooj Sathi” link under “Quick Links” section or directly click https://wbsaboojsathi.gov.in/v2/grievance_form.php. List of Students for WB Sabooj Sathi Scheme
Schools have been reopened in the West Bengal state and CM Mamata Banerjee has directed the officials to prepare the lists of students and distribute the bicycles among them. Not a single eligible student should be deprived of this benefit. The distribution of bicycles among students is overseen by the Backward Class Welfare Department. The department already floated a tender for procuring 10 lakh bicycles.
Now WB govt. is going to float another tender for procuring additional 10 lakh bicycles as the chief minister has directed us to double the volume. The WB Sabooj Sathi Scheme 2024 was appreciated both in internal and national platforms proved effective. It is because the West Bengal state has topped the list of states with the least school dropouts as per the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2020.
A bicycle in a poor family in rural West Bengal helps will meet many other purposes other than using it as comfortable and eco-friendly transport means to go to school. It is expected that the distribution of 20 lakh bicycles will result in electoral dividend favouring the ruling party.
