Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has sanctioned more than 16 lakh houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) so far, with the 7th CSMC meeting held on 17 June 2026 alone approving 2.13 lakh new houses for eligible city families. Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) meets every few months to review and approve fresh housing projects sent by states and union territories.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban was upgraded to PMAY-U 2.0 in September 2024, with a target of building 1 crore more houses for EWS, LIG and MIG families by 2029, backed by central assistance of ₹2.30 lakh crore from central government. Older PMAY-U mission, which ran from 2015 to 2022, had already sanctioned over 1.2 crore houses before this. CSMC Meetings Under PMAY Urban 2.0
Central government restarted CSMC meeting count from the beginning after PMAY Urban 2.0 was launched, since it runs as a fresh five-year mission with its own targets and verticals. So far, seven CSMC meetings have been held under PMAY-U 2.0, sanctioning houses in batches for states that send in eligible project proposals.
CSMC 7th Meeting Under PMAY Urban 2.0 (June 2026)
Secretary, MoHUA chaired 7th CSMC meeting under PMAY-U 2.0 on 17 June 2026 and sanctioned 2.13 lakh houses for eligible urban poor families. This takes total number of houses approved under PMAY-U 2.0 past 16.13 lakh. Out of the houses sanctioned in this meeting, 2.05 lakh have been allotted to women, including widows and women who are separated or unmarried.
Scheme gives extra weightage to housing needs of SC/ST/OBC families, minorities, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and transgender persons while sanctioning these projects, so that vulnerable groups get priority access to pucca houses.
CSMC 6th Meeting Under PMAY Urban 2.0 (February 2026)
At 6th CSMC meeting held in New Delhi in February 2026, government sanctioned over 2.88 lakh houses under PMAY-U 2.0. This was one of the biggest single sanctions since scheme launch in September 2024, and it pushed cumulative houses approved under PMAY-U 2.0 to nearly 14 lakh at that point.
Budget, Eligibility and Subsidy Under PMAY Urban 2.0
Union Budget documents for FY 2026-27 show an allocation of more than ₹21,000 crore towards Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban 2.0 and related housing programmes run by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Scheme covers Economically Weaker Section (EWS) families with annual income up to ₹3 lakh, Low Income Group (LIG) families earning between ₹3 lakh and ₹6 lakh, and Middle Income Group (MIG) families earning between ₹6 lakh and ₹9 lakh a year.
Central assistance goes up to ₹2.5 lakh for EWS houses and up to ₹1.5 lakh for LIG houses under construction-linked verticals. MIG families who take a home loan under PMAY-U 2.0 can get interest subsidy of up to ₹1.8 lakh through Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS), which is credited to borrower's loan account through banks and housing finance companies.

History of CSMC Meetings Under Earlier PMAY Urban Mission (2017-2022)
Before PMAY-U 2.0 came in, first phase of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban ran from 2015 to 2022 and sanctioned more than 1.2 crore houses across the country. Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee held regular meetings during this period to approve state-wise housing projects across Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) and In-Situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR) verticals. How to Apply for PMAY Urban 2.0
Eligible families who do not own a pucca house anywhere in country can apply for PMAY-U 2.0 online, or with help of a Common Service Centre near their home. Steps for applying online are given below.
STEP 1 - Go to official website at pmay-urban.gov.in or pmaymis.gov.in and look for 'Citizen Assessment' or 'Apply for PMAY-U 2.0' link on homepage.
STEP 2 - Pick correct vertical for the case, such as Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH), or Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS), then enter Aadhaar number to start application.
STEP 3 - Fill in personal, income, family and address details in the form that opens up, and upload required documents such as Aadhaar card, income certificate and bank account details.
STEP 4 - Submit the completed form and note down application/reference number for tracking status later. Applicants who do not have online access can also apply through Common Service Centre (CSC) with help of the CSC operator.
