Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Public Administration recognise and reward outstanding, innovative and impactful work done by districts, government organisations and civil servants across the country. Instituted in 2006 and managed by Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) under Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, this annual scheme gives a trophy, a scroll and a cash incentive of ₹20,00,000 to the selected awardees.
Applications are invited every year for this award, and for the 2025 cycle the last date for registration and submission was 15 November 2025. Award winners get their prizes on Civil Services Day, which is observed every year around 21 April, with the latest ceremony held on 21 April 2026.
Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Public Administration - Key Details
The scheme was restructured and revamped over the years to keep the focus on good governance, qualitative results and last mile connectivity rather than only quantitative targets. For the 2025 cycle, the awards are given under three categories: Holistic Development of Districts, Aspirational Blocks Programme, and Innovation.
Applications under the scheme are judged on three parameters, namely Governance, Qualitative and Quantitative. For the 2025 award cycle the weightage given to these parameters is 50%, 30% and 20% respectively, and Jan Bhagidari, or citizen participation, carries extra weightage when it is used well at every stage of implementation.
