Mukhyamantri Sukh Ashray Yojana is a social welfare scheme of Himachal Pradesh government that looks after orphans, abandoned children, destitute women and senior citizens. It provides cash support, education, housing and social security so these groups can live with dignity and become self-reliant.
Himachal Pradesh cabinet approved the guidelines for this large ₹101 crore scheme on 16 February 2023, and it continues to support eligible families. As of August 2026 the scheme is still giving benefits to children up to 27 years of age, and payments are being made in districts across the state, including Kangra.
Mukhyamantri Sukh Ashray Yojana - Introduction
The scheme treats orphans, abandoned children and other at-risk groups as children of the state. Its main aim is to make sure no child or vulnerable woman is left without care, education or a roof over the head. The state set up the Mukhya Mantri Sukh Aashray Kosh, a state level and district level fund, to receive donations, CSR contributions and online payments to run the scheme.
The scheme has a few clear goals. It wants to give complete care and protection to orphan, semi-orphan and specially-abled children along with destitute women, and to support their higher and professional education. It also provides skill training and rehabilitation for destitute women, and improves living conditions for children, women and the elderly through psycho-social support and emotional connection.
