MSP For Kharif Crops 2026-27: Central govt. led by PM Narendra Modi has approved a higher minimum support price (MSP) for 14 Kharif crops for the 2026-27 marketing season. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) cleared the new rates on 13 May 2026. Farmers growing paddy, pulses, oilseeds and cotton will now get a better price for their produce.

The new MSP is fixed at a level of at least 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production. The expected margin over the cost of production is highest for moong at 61%, followed by bajra and maize at 56% each, and tur or arhar at 54%. For the rest of the crops, the margin stays at 50%.

Kharif Crops MSP 2026-27 (in rupees per quintal)

The new MSP for Kharif crops is calculated after examining all paid out costs. It includes the cost of hired human labour, bullock or machine labour, rent paid for leased in land, expenses on material inputs like seeds, fertilizers and manures, irrigation charges, depreciation on implements and farm buildings, interest on working capital, diesel or electricity for pump sets, other expenses and the imputed value of family labour.

Implementation of Kharif MSP 2026-27

The new MSP for the 2026-27 Kharif season will be provided in the following manner:-

  • For cereals including nutri cereals, Food Corporation of India (FCI) and other designated state agencies will continue to provide price support to farmers.
  • NAFED, SFAC and other designated central agencies will continue to take up procurement of pulses and oilseeds.
  • CCI will serve as the central nodal agency for price support operations for cotton. NAFED will supplement the efforts of CCI for cotton procurement.
  • Any losses incurred by the nodal agencies in such operations will be fully reimbursed by the government.

The central govt's policy will provide income security to farmers, and the focus has shifted from a production-centric approach to an income-centric one.
