Punjab Govt to Distribute Free School Uniforms to class 1st to 8th students. Punjab State Government has launched a unique scheme under which free school uniforms will be distributed among the 15.49 lakh school students who are currently enrolled in the government schools. Punjab Govt School Uniform Scheme Apply Online
The state govt. of Punjab will start distribution of free school uniforms to government school students. The decision was formally notified by Punjab Education Minister on 19th May 2022. School Education Department will spearhead the free uniform distribution drive under which 15,49,192 government school students of Class 1 to 8 for academic session 2022-23 will be provided with free school uniforms. To fund the scheme, the government has released Rs. 92.95 crore.
As the scheme has not been officially launched, there is no apply online process for Punjab Government Free School Uniform Scheme 2024. The state govt. may invite Punjab Government School Uniform Scheme online application form / registration form at the official website of School Department of Punjab or at a dedicated new portal. Punjab Government School Uniform Scheme Eligibility
Each applicant must fulfill the below mentioned eligibility criteria to become eligible for Punjab government school uniform scheme:-
- Applicant must be a permanent resident of the Punjab state.
- He / she must be enrolled as a regular candidate in any government school across the state.
- Applicant must be studying in either class 1st or 2nd or 3rd or 4th or 5th or 6th or 7th or 8th.
Students of class 9th to 12th are not eligible for this 1st phase of Punjab Government Free School Uniform Scheme. However, the state govt. may provide free school uniforms to such students in the next phase.
Details of Punjab Free School Uniform Scheme Beneficiaries
Along with sharing the total number of beneficiaries under the scheme, Education Minister also mentioned that of the total allocation of funds.
- Rs. 50.72 crore will be used to provide free school uniforms to 8,45,429 girl students in govt schools.
- On similar lines, Rs. 32.75 crore has been set aisde to prepare school uniforms for 5,45,993 boys who fall under the SC Category.
- On similar lines, 1,57,770 boys who fall in the BPL (below poverty line) category will also be provided school uniforms at the cost of Rs 9.46 crore.
The distribution of School Uniforms will be managed by the school management committees (SMCs).

As per the press release published by the School Education Department, School Management Committees have been allocated Rs. 600 per student to purchase school uniforms for the govt school students. Furthermore, education minister also directed SMCs to not purchase uniforms from any participar shop or brands.
