Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme gives ₹1,000 every month to eligible women heads of families in Tamil Nadu. The amount reaches their bank accounts directly through DBT. The scheme is continuing under the new state government, and the monthly payment is being released as usual.
The scheme was started to recognize the unpaid work women do at home. Around 1.31 crore women in the state get this monthly support. The new government has promised to raise the amount to ₹2,500 under Madhippumigu Magalir Thittam, and work on that change is still going on.
Update: On 13 February 2026, the state government credited a one-time ₹5,000 to the bank accounts of 1.31 crore women. In May 2026, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay directed officials to release the ₹1,000 monthly installment on time. Former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin asked the government to credit the May amount by the 15th. The government said it needs time to restructure the scheme before the promised ₹2,500 hike. As of September 2026, the monthly payment stays at ₹1,000.
