Chhattisgarh government's Godhan Nyay Yojana is buying cow dung from cattle rearers at a fixed rate of ₹2 per kg and cow urine at ₹4 per litre. The scheme was launched on 20 July 2020 on the occasion of the Hareli festival, making Chhattisgarh the first state in India to buy cow dung from livestock owners for their welfare. The state government uses this cow dung to prepare organic fertilizers like vermi compost.

The scheme was started by former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. Now the current government under Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai is running it. Payments are made to eligible cattle rearers every 15 days directly into their bank accounts through DBT. So far, more than 2,11,540 cattle rearers have got the benefit of this scheme, and around 9,211 women self help groups have received work opportunities.

Godhan Nyay Yojana Guidelines

The state government has procured around 70.36 lakh quintals of cow dung so far. From this, about 7,17,839 quintals of cow dung compost has been prepared, out of which 5,12,309 quintals has been sold. The government has also made around 3 lakh quintals of super compost, with 1.25 lakh quintals sold. More than 13,000 Gauthans (cow sheds) have been built across the villages of Chhattisgarh.

How to Register for Godhan Nyay Yojana

Registration for Godhan Nyay Yojana is done at the local Gauthan or gram panchayat. There is no separate online process for registration. The cattle rearer has to visit the nearest Gauthan or gram panchayat office and complete the registration process.

STEP 1 - Visit the nearest Gauthan or gram panchayat office in your area.

STEP 2 - Fill the application form with details like name, address, Aadhaar, bank account, cattle details and quantity of cow dung.

STEP 3 - The Gauthan committee will confirm the registration after checking the details.

STEP 4 - After verification, the cattle rearer can start selling cow dung at the Gauthan.

STEP 5 - The payment is transferred to the bank account through DBT within 15 days of the sale.
