Government of Maharashtra has launched Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, or MJPJAY in 2017 to provide free cashless treatment to state residents. The scheme provides free and cashless treatment facilities to all eligible state residents , so families can focus on getting better instead of stressing about hospital bills.

What is Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana?

Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana or MJPJAY was first launched on July 2, 2012, and was known as Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Arogya Yojana. In 2017, it was renamed to honor the great social reformer, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule. The main goal of this scheme is to offer quality healthcare to poor and at-risk families across all 36 districts of Maharashtra.

The scheme offers cashless treatment for a very large number of medical conditions and surgeries at a network of government and private hospitals. It acts as a safety net, helping families get critical medical care without paying from their own pocket. From July 2024, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana has been expanded to cover all families in Maharashtra, making healthcare accessible to everyone in the state.

  18. Its a very helpful scheme for poor and needy patients. But most of the private hospitals don’t opt for it because of extremely low and delayed returns from government and also delay in sanctioning of required treatment.
