National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at scholarships.gov.in is the single online platform where students can apply for state wise scholarships for Indian students. For academic year 2026-27, the portal opened for fresh applications from June 1, 2026, and the last date to apply for most schemes is October 31, 2026. These scholarship schemes are run by the respective state governments for the welfare of students, and the full scholarships.gov.in Schemes List is available on the portal.
Along with state wise scholarships, there are some UGC/AICTE schemes and central schemes for which a student can apply at scholarships.gov.in before the last date. One Time Registration (OTR) is now required to apply for any scholarship on the portal, and the amount is sent directly to the student's bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

How to Apply for State Wise Scholarships on NSP
To apply for any state wise scholarship on the National Scholarship Portal, a student first needs to complete One Time Registration (OTR). OTR is a unique 14-digit number based on Aadhaar or Aadhaar Enrolment ID, and it is required for every scholarship application from academic year 2024-25 onward.
STEP 1 - Visit the official website at scholarships.gov.in and click on the 'Apply for One Time Registration (OTR)' option. New users should click on 'Register Yourself' and go through the guidelines before proceeding.
STEP 2 - Enter the mobile number and click on OTP. After entering the OTP and captcha, complete the eKYC update using Aadhaar number or Aadhaar Enrolment ID (EID). Fill in details like name, gender, date of birth, parents' name and email ID.
STEP 3 - Once the registration is complete, log in with the application ID and password received on the registered mobile number.
STEP 4 - After logging in, click on 'Apply Fresh' to start a new application. Fill in the general information, academic details, scheme details and upload the required documents. Review the details carefully and click on 'Final Submit', as applications cannot be edited after submission.
