Griha Lakshmi Scheme provides direct financial support of ₹2,000 per month to female heads of households in Karnataka. Karnataka government launched this scheme in August 2023 to help women manage daily household expenses and improve their economic stability.
As of August 2026, more than 1.28 crore women across the state receive this monthly transfer through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The 30th installment of ₹2,000 was released on May 7, 2026, and the 2026-27 budget has set aside ₹28,608 crore for this scheme.
Griha Lakshmi Scheme - Introduction
Griha Lakshmi Scheme is a key support system launched by the Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Karnataka. It gives a monthly cash benefit of ₹2,000 to the woman who is the head of the family as per the ration card. The money is transferred directly into her bank account through DBT.
Whether your family holds a Below Poverty Line (BPL) card, an Above Poverty Line (APL) card, or an Antyodaya card, you may qualify for this support. For example, if Sunita is the head of her household as per her ration card, she can apply to receive this monthly transfer into her bank account.

Benefits
Under this scheme, eligible women receive a monthly financial benefit of ₹2,000. The government transfers these funds directly into the bank account linked to the beneficiary's Aadhaar card. If an account is not linked to Aadhaar, the funds are transferred smoothly using RTGS methods, making sure everyone receives their support on time.
The scheme helps housewives, homeless women, and agricultural laborers who need regular money support. Over 1.28 crore women currently benefit from this monthly transfer, and the state has disbursed more than ₹50,000 crore to beneficiaries since the scheme began.
Eligibility
To benefit from Griha Lakshmi Scheme, you should be a woman and serve as the head of your family as recorded on your ration card. This scheme welcomes women from BPL, APL, and Antyodaya families residing in Karnataka. Only one woman per household can receive the benefit.
From 2026, Karnataka has linked guarantee scheme benefits to the electoral roll, so only women whose names are in the voter list will keep getting the ₹2,000 support. If a family head passes away, the next eligible female member of that household can register for the support by submitting the death certificate.
Exclusions
You should note that this scheme excludes households where the primary head is a male. Additionally, if the female head of the family or her husband pays either income tax or GST, she does not qualify for this financial support. Female government employees are also not eligible.

2026 Updates
Starting July 2026, Karnataka has brought in Aadhaar-based biometric verification for Griha Lakshmi beneficiaries to stop misuse of the monthly cash transfer. Women receiving the ₹2,000 support need to complete biometric authentication to keep getting the benefit, and a charge of ₹5 applies for biometric registration. If a beneficiary does not complete this verification, the monthly amount will not be credited to her account.
The government has also linked the scheme to the voter list and started a statewide re-verification drive to remove ineligible beneficiaries. Around 4.3 lakh names were removed after being found deceased or ineligible due to high income. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has made it clear there is no plan to cut benefits for genuine recipients, and the scheme continues without any reduction in the ₹2,000 monthly amount.
