Eligibility
Only Municipal Bodies and Gram Panchayats can apply under this scheme. The applying body must meet a few conditions before it can receive the equipment.
- A proper Field of Play (FoP) for the required sport must be available in the town or village where the equipment will be used.
- Proper space for storing the equipment must be available with the applicant, and an undertaking confirming this must be submitted along with the application.
- The local body should not have received any sports items during the last two financial years, and it can apply for equipment for all sports that are popular in the area.
For a Gram Panchayat, the Sarpanch of the village submits the application. If the post of Sarpanch is vacant, the Gram Sachiv can submit it. For a Municipal Body, the concerned ward member or counselor submits the application. Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and Members of Parliament (MPs) can also recommend applications, and the recommendation in original must be given to the District Sports Officer.
Benefits and Equipment Provided
The scheme gives a fixed set of equipment for each sport. The amount and type of gear depends on the sport chosen by the local body.
- Volleyball, football, basketball and handball: up to 06 balls each, and a net where poles are installed.
- Boxing: up to 06 punching bags and 12 pairs of gloves.
- Wrestling and judo: 18 piece mats with cover, each mat of 1 metre length, 2 metre width and 5 cm thickness. Equipment is provided for either wrestling or judo, not both.
- Cricket: one kit with 02 bats, 02 sets of wickets with stumps, 06 balls, two pairs of batting pads and gloves, and one pair of wicket keeping pads and gloves.
- Yoga: mats of 210 cm length, 90 cm width and 8 to 10 mm thickness.
- Weightlifting: barbells of 20 kg and weight plates of 2.5 kg, 5 kg, 10 kg, 15 kg and 20 kg.
How to Apply
The application is submitted offline at the office of the District Sports Officer. The process is simple and can be done on any working day.
STEP 1 - Prepare the prescribed application form for the scheme and fill in the name of the applicant, designation, name of the Municipal Body or Gram Panchayat, district and the two sports for which equipment is needed.
STEP 2 - Attach the latest photographs of the Field of Play and the storage facility, clearly mentioning the date and location on each photo. Also submit the undertaking confirming that proper FoP and storage space are available.
STEP 3 - Submit the application at the office of the District Sports Officer and collect a proper receipt. The office must enter the application in a register in the order it is received.
STEP 4 - The Scrutiny Committee, headed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner and including the District Sports Officer, senior most coach and other officials, reviews the application. Equipment is allocated within 10 calendar days of scrutiny.
STEP 5 - After the equipment is issued, it is entered in the proceeding register of the concerned body, and the District Sports Officer maintains an Issue Register of all allocations.
