Pre-Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe Students Studying in Classes 9th and 10th helps tribal students of Assam stay in school. Pre-Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe Students Studying in Classes 9th and 10th - Overview

Department of Tribal Affairs (Plain), Government of Assam implements the Pre-Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe students studying in classes 9th and 10th. The main aim is to bring down school drop-out rates among tribal students and help them move into post-matric education with confidence.

The scholarship reaches the bank account of the student in full, and students who need extra support also get a separate disability allowance. Application dates for 2026-27 opened on 6 July 2026, and the last date to apply on the NSP is 6 October 2026.

Benefits

The scheme gives support in three separate parts, and every part is paid directly into the Aadhaar-linked bank account of the student.

• Monthly scholarship paid for 10 months. Day scholars get ₹225 per month, which comes to ₹2,250 a year, and hostelers get ₹525 per month, which comes to ₹5,250 a year.
• Book and ad hoc grant paid as a lump sum each year. Day scholars get ₹750 and hostelers get ₹1,000.
• Disability allowance for eligible students with physical disability, leprosy-cured status, sickle cell anemia or Thalassemia. Hostelers get ₹800 per month (₹9,600 a year) and day scholars get ₹600 per month (₹7,200 a year), paid for 12 months.

Renewal of the scholarship depends on good conduct and regular attendance. A student who passes class 9 can renew it in class 10, but the money is not given again for repeating the same class year.

Eligibility

Before applying, a student should check that every condition given below is met. Incomplete or wrong applications get rejected at the checking stage.

• The applicant must belong to a Scheduled Tribe in the State of Assam.
• The student must be studying in class 9 or class 10 in a government school or a school recognized by a Central or State Board of Secondary Education.
• Total annual family income must not exceed ₹2,50,000.
• An Aadhaar-linked bank account and an Aadhaar-linked mobile number are required.
• The student should not be receiving any other scholarship at the same time.

Exclusions

Certain cases are not covered under the scheme. These points are checked before the money is released.

• A student who gives false information or misrepresents facts gets disqualified.
• When both parents work, the combined income of both is counted.
• Income of siblings or other extended family members is not included in the calculation.
• In a single-parent household, only the income of the surviving parent is counted.
• The income cap is waived for orphans who are supported by a legal guardian.

Application Process

Applications for 2026-27 are accepted only online on the National Scholarship Portal. Follow these steps to apply.

STEP 1 - Go to the official National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in and click on New Registration.

STEP 2 - Complete the registration using your Aadhaar number and mobile number, and set a password for the account.

STEP 3 - Log in with your credentials and choose Pre-Matric Scholarship for ST students under the eligible scheme list.

STEP 4 - Fill in all the personal, family and school details, and upload the required documents in the given format.

STEP 5 - Review everything before submitting, then download and print the acknowledgement for your records.
