Benefits are provided for two years for Master's students and three years for Doctoral students, as long as the required academic performance is maintained.

Eligibility

To qualify for this scholarship, a candidate needs to meet the following requirements.

Academic Standards: A student must keep a minimum CGPA of 7.00 out of 10.00 at the end of each semester to continue receiving the scholarship.

Master's Programme: A candidate should hold a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science as specified by the Veterinary Council of India, with at least 60% marks in aggregate, or 55% for SC/ST and sponsored candidates.

Doctoral Programme: A candidate should have an MVSc degree with a minimum CGPA of 6.50 out of 10.00, or equivalent scales for different grading systems. For SC/ST, physically challenged and sponsored categories, the requirement is a 5.50 out of 10.00 CGPA. If the university does not use grade points, the candidate should have secured at least 60% marks, or 50% for reserved and sponsored categories.

Age Criteria: For PhD candidates, the minimum age is 23 years as of 1st August of the academic session. There is no upper age limit.

Application Process

Admission and scholarship selection for the Master's programme happen through the All India Entrance Examination (PG) conducted by the ICAR Education Division through the National Testing Agency. For the Doctoral programme, the institute publishes admission advertisements in leading newspapers and on its website, usually between February and March, with the application deadline typically in the first week of April.

STEP 1 - Visit the official ICAR Education Division website at icar.org.in and apply for the All India Entrance Examination (PG) for the Master's programme, or for the ICAR JRF/SRF (PhD) examination for the Doctoral programme.

STEP 2 - Appear for the written entrance examination held at various centres including Izatnagar, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Kolkata and Palampur. Only candidates meeting the minimum qualifying marks are considered for the merit list.

STEP 3 - After clearing the examination, take part in the online counselling where ICAR finalises the students for the M.V.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes at the ICAR-IVRI Deemed University based on merit and seat availability.

STEP 4 - Once admitted, the scholarship is awarded by the Joint Director (Acad.) on the recommendation of the Standing Committee on Scholarship, Financial Assistance and Academic Progress, based on the merit of each applicant.

In the event of a tie during selection, priority is given based on MVSc marks, then BVSc marks, and finally the older candidate is prioritised.
