Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAGY) 2026 Guidelines are available to download in PDF format at pmagy.gov.in. It is a centrally sponsored scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to create model villages, known as Adarsh Gram, across the country where people have access to various basic services.
An Adarsh Gram or model village under PMAGY has all such infrastructure and its residents have access to all such basic services that are needed for a dignified living. This creates an environment where everyone is able to use her or his potential to the fullest.
Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAGY)
The main aim of this scheme is to make sure that selected villages with more than 50% SC population get integrated development. The scheme was launched on a pilot basis in 2009-10 and was extended to more villages in 2014-15. It works mainly through the convergence of existing central and state schemes, with gap filling funds for needs that are not covered by any other scheme.
As per the official website, the scheme has covered 47,268 villages across 26 states and 597 districts so far. As on 05-08-2026, about 17,976 villages have been declared as Adarsh Gram and 25,091 Village Development Plans (VDP) have been generated. States have been asked to proceed with VDP generation for the newly selected villages for the year 2025-2026.
Eligibility
Villages with more than 50% SC population are eligible under PMAGY. As per Census 2011, there are 46,844 such villages. Among these, only villages with a total population of 500 or more are taken up for selection in the first order, in descending order of their SC population. For the full list of covered villages, see the PMAGY villages list.
Funding
An amount of Rs 21 lakh per village is provided by the central government for new villages. Out of this, Rs 20 lakh is for the gap filling component and Rs 1 lakh is for administrative and other expenses. For villages already covered in earlier phases, an additional round of funding of Rs 10 lakh per village is available. States are expected to converge at least 3 to 4 times of the gap filling fund from other central and state schemes.
