Cabinet Committee has approved PM Poshan Shakti Nirman Yojana (पीएम पोषण शक्ति निर्माण योजना) 2023 which is to be implemented across all the states in India. New Name for Mid Day Meal Scheme i.e Pradhan Mantri Poshan Yojana (प्रधानमंत्री पोषण योजना) will be applicable to all government / govt-aided schools. What is PM Poshan Shakti Nirman Yojana 2023
Presently Mid Day Meal Scheme is running in govt. / govt-aided schools to provide cooked meals to ensure proper nutrition to students. The central government has changed the name of this MDM scheme to PM Poshan Shakti Nirman Yojana (पीएम पोषण शक्ति निर्माण योजना). The new Pradhan Mantri Poshan Yojana will be implemented for the next 5 years i.e 2021-22 to 2025-26 with an outlay of Rs. 1.3 lakh crore.
Central Govt. to Give Rs. 54000 Crore for PM Poshan Yojana
PM Poshan Yojana will be a central sector scheme which will run in collaboration with respective state governments. As per an estimate, central govt. will contribute Rs. 54061.73 crore while UT/state governments will contribute Rs. 31,733.17 crore. Moreover, central government will also bear an additional expenditure of Rs. 45000 crore for food grains.
PM Modi Tweet on Pradhan Mantri Poshan Yojana
PM Narendra Modi has official tweeted for the launch of Pradhan Mantri Poshan Yojana in which he wrote “कुपोषण के खतरे से निपटने के लिए हम हरसंभव काम करने को प्रतिबद्ध हैं. पीएम-पोषण को लेकर केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल का निर्णय बहुत अहम है और इससे भारत के युवाओं का फायदा होगा.” Along with the students, Pradhan Mantri Poshan Yojana will also benefit women self help groups. This PM Poshan Scheme will encourage participation of Food Producer Organisations (FPO) and women SHGs in ensuring effective implementation of the scheme.
PM Poshan Scheme to Include 12 Crore Students
Pradhan Mantri Poshan Yojana will include 11.80 crore students of around 11.20 lakh schools. All the students studying in class 1st to 8th in either govt. or govt. aided schools would be eligible for PM Poshan Shakti Nirman Yojana.
Background of Mid Day Meal Scheme
Mid Day Meal (MDM) Scheme was launched in the year 1995 with an aim to raise the nutrition level of school students in primary schools. This scheme aims to provide nutritious meal to students atleast 1 time in a day. MDM scheme later became a huge success in improving nutrition among children as well as plays a major role in increasing admission rate in schools.
