Bihar government's Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana is giving ₹10,000 to one woman from every family in the state to start a business. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced the scheme on 29 August 2025, and payments have been reaching women's bank accounts in phases since September 2025. More than 1 crore women have joined the scheme so far.
Under the scheme, women first get ₹10,000 directly in their bank account. After six months, based on how the business is doing, they can get up to ₹2 lakh more in four stages. The scheme is run by the rural development department through Jeevika self help groups.
Update: On 16 February 2026, the state government transferred ₹2,500 crore to the accounts of 25 lakh women as the next installment. Earlier, on 3 October 2025, the first installment of ₹10,000 was sent to another 25 lakh women.
Bihar government has approved a provision of ₹20,000 crore for loans under the scheme. Apart from the cash support, the government is also developing haat-bazaars from village to city level so that women can sell their products and improve their family income.

How Rural Women Can Apply
Women in rural areas who are already part of a Jeevika self help group can apply through their village organization (VO), also called gram sangathan. Meetings are held at the village organization level, and the group fills a single consolidated form for all its members.
Women who are not yet part of a self help group need to first give a self declaration or application at their nearest village organization to join a group. Joining the group can take 3 to 10 days. After joining, the group meeting is held, details are collected, and the amount is transferred.
Carry a copy of the Aadhaar card when filling the form, because payment is made only to Aadhaar-enabled accounts to avoid duplication.
