e-Shram Card is a national digital identity for workers in the unorganized sector of India. Registration is open on the official portal eshram.gov.in, and more than 31 crore workers have already enrolled. The scheme gives every worker a 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN) that stays valid for life.
e-Shram Card is run by the Ministry of Labour and Employment. It does not pay any cash benefit directly. Instead, the UAN links a worker to official central welfare schemes, including PM-JAY health cover, PMSBY accident insurance and PM-SYM pension. This makes it easier for workers to find the support they need without filling separate forms for each scheme.
e-Shram Card 2026
e Shram Card works as a single identity for workers facing economic hardship. Once registered, a worker can access schemes like Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan. The main aim of this scheme is to give unorganized workers a clear path to social security.
The registration process is simple and fully online through the official portal eshram.gov.in. Applying online saves workers from visiting government offices and cuts down their time and travel cost.

FAQ's
Is e-Shram Card giving Rs 1000 per month?
No. The e-Shram Card itself does not pay any cash. The Rs 1000 claim refers to state-level schemes like UP Kamgar Bhatta or MP Sambal Yojana, which use the e-Shram UAN to find eligible workers. To claim these, you need both the e-Shram UAN and the state-specific enrolment.
How to download e-Shram Card by UAN number?
Open eshram.gov.in, click Already Registered, enter your 12-digit UAN and Aadhaar-linked mobile number, verify with OTP and click Download UAN Card. The PDF can also be downloaded through the eSHRAM or UMANG mobile app.
Can gig workers register on e-Shram?
Yes. Gig and platform delivery workers are eligible for e-Shram registration. The Code on Social Security 2020 recognizes them as a separate legal category, and platforms like Zomato, Swiggy, Uber and Ola now route delivery agents into e-Shram.
