Kanya Sumangala Yojana 2026 is running in Uttar Pradesh and registration is open for eligible families. The scheme now gives up to ₹25,000 to a girl child in six stages, from birth till admission in a degree or diploma course after Class 12. Earlier the total payout was ₹15,000, and the state government raised it from the 2024-25 budget.

This is a conditional cash transfer scheme run by the Department of Women and Child Development of the UP government. Money goes straight to the mother's bank account through DBT payment, and families with annual income up to ₹3 lakh can apply online at mksy.up.gov.in.

Kanya Sumangala Yojana 2026

Kanya Sumangala Yojana started on 25 April 2019 to stop female feticide and child marriage and to push girls toward education and better health. A girl gets cash at six life stages if the family meets the income and residency rules. Since the launch, total registrations have crossed 1.5 crore, and 27,37,703 girls have received benefits with Rs 674.15 crore paid through DBT till June 2026.

UP Budget 2026-27 keeps the scheme fully active, with around ₹400 crore set aside for it under the Women and Child Development demand for grants. Families with a girl born on or after 1 April 2019 can apply for the first stage right now. Girls who applied under the old ₹15,000 structure still get their remaining stages at the new rates.

Eligibility

Families should check the conditions listed on the official portal before applying. The main points are:

  • Residency: family must be a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh, with proof like ration card, Aadhaar card, voter ID, electricity bill or telephone bill.
  • Income: annual family income must be up to ₹3 lakh.
  • Family size: maximum two girls from one family, and the family must have maximum two children.
  • Twins exception: if the second delivery gives twin girls, all three girls become eligible. Adopted girls also count within the two-girl limit.
  • Date of birth: for the first stage, the girl must be born on or after 1 April 2019.

Online Application Process

Applying is easy and fully online. Every stage needs a fresh application, so keep the login details safe and file a new form whenever the next stage falls due. Follow these steps:

STEP 1 - Open the official website at mksy.up.gov.in and click on the Citizen Service Portal option on the home page.

STEP 2 - Read the terms, tick the agreement box and click Continue to reach the registration form.

STEP 3 - Click on New User Register and fill in the applicant name, father or husband name, district, mobile number and relation.

STEP 4 - Verify the mobile number with the OTP. The portal then gives a user ID and password; save both for future login.

STEP 5 - Log in with the user ID and password, and select the stage or category for which the application is being filed.

STEP 6 - Enter the girl's details, family income details and bank account details, then upload the documents for that stage.

STEP 7 - Submit the form and note down the application ID. Later, use Track Application Status on the portal to check where the file stands.

The application moves from the Anganwadi worker to the block and district offices, and the money is released through DBT after full checking. A clean application usually takes 30 to 60 days. For any problem, families can call the UP Women and Child Development helpline at 1800-833-0100 or 1800-180-0300.

Documents Required

Keep the documents ready before starting the application because each stage asks for a specific proof. Common documents are:

  • Latest photo of the girl and a joint photo with the parent, plus an affidavit in the prescribed format.
  • Aadhaar card of the applicant, father, mother and the girl. Aadhaar has been required for all of them since 10 October 2022.
  • Bank passbook of the mother with Aadhaar linked to it, so the DBT payment reaches the right account.

Stage-wise documents are: birth certificate for the first stage, immunization card for the second, admission certificate for Class 1, 6 and 9 for the third, fourth and fifth stages, and 10th or 12th mark sheet with admission fee receipt for the sixth stage. Girls applying for higher studies in UP can also check the UP Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana for extra study support.
