PM Vidya Lakshmi Portal registration 2026 and student login are open at pmvidyalaxmi.co.in. Students fill one common loan form on this portal, set up by the central government, and send it to up to three banks at once.

Students who already have a loan need to act before 31 December 2026. Interest subsidy claims for FY 2025-26 under PM-USP CSIS and PM-Vidyalaxmi are being taken from 1 September 2026 to 31 December 2026, and only the bank that gave the loan can file them.

As of 8 October 2026, the portal has received 11,76,259 loan applications under all bank schemes, asking for ₹1,65,723.12 crore. Banks have sanctioned 6,51,444 of them for ₹76,793.05 crore and released money in 5,72,554 cases worth ₹25,265.68 crore.

What is PM Vidyalakshmi scheme

PM-Vidyalaxmi is a central sector scheme of the Department of Higher Education, approved by the Union Cabinet on 6 November 2024. It gives collateral-free and guarantor-free education loans to students with a merit seat in one of 1,425 Quality Higher Educational Institutions (QHEIs). Loans up to ₹7.5 lakh carry a 75% credit guarantee from the Government of India.

Interest is capped at the bank's EBLR plus 0.5%. Banks may cut up to 1% more if the student keeps paying interest during the course and moratorium. Repayment can run up to 15 years after the moratorium, which is the course period plus one year. A budget of ₹3,600 crore covers 2024-25 to 2030-31, for about 7 lakh new students.

Families earning up to ₹8 lakh a year get a 3% interest subsidy during the moratorium on loans up to ₹10 lakh. If family income is up to ₹4.5 lakh and the course is technical or professional, the full interest for the moratorium is paid under PM-USP CSIS, again on loans up to ₹10 lakh.

FAQ's

Who gets the 3% subsidy first if more than 1 lakh students apply?

Priority goes to admission in a government institute, then technical or professional courses, then class 12 passed from a government school, class 10 from a government school, class 12 from a rural school, and then girl students.

Is there an upper limit on the loan amount?

No. Banks fix the amount from the course fee, hostel and mess charges, a laptop and reasonable living costs. Subsidy is counted only on the first ₹10 lakh.

Does the subsidy continue after the first year?

Yes, if academic performance stays satisfactory. From the second year, institutes upload semester-wise progress reports on the portal.
