Chief Minister Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme was launched by the Government of Tamil Nadu through United India Insurance Company Ltd, a Public Sector Insurance Company headquartered at Chennai. The scheme was first started as Kalaignar Kaappittu Thittam in July 2009 and now covers around 1.48 crore families across the state. • This scheme is for the residents of Tamil Nadu whose name is present in the family card. CMCHIS is applicable to those whose annual family income is less than ₹1.2 lakh per annum under the general category.
• To get benefits under the scheme, it is enough to produce the family card and income certificate from the VAO or revenue authorities along with the self declaration of the head of the family.

• Orphans living in any registered or unregistered organization can be given a single card. This also includes rescued girl children and any other person defined as an orphan by the government.

How to Enroll for CM Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme in Tamil Nadu

Any eligible person who wants to enroll for the CM Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme needs to follow the steps given below. The enrollment is done at the district kiosk or card issuing center at the District Collector's office.

STEP 1 - First obtain the income certificate for the family from the Village Administrative Officer (VAO).

STEP 2 - The family head or member should carry the original ration card with a Xerox copy along with the income certificate and Aadhaar card to the district kiosk or card issuing center.

STEP 3 - The kiosk operator, after checking the documents, will enroll the member by capturing the demographic and biometric details.

STEP 4 - After capturing the member's photograph, the e-card will be generated and issued to the beneficiary.

How to Link Aadhaar With URN

Existing beneficiaries can link their Aadhaar number with the 22 digit URN through the CMCHIS online portal. The steps are given below.

STEP 1 - Open the "CMCHIS Online" tab on the official website at www.cmchistn.com.

STEP 2 - In the given slot, enter the 22 digit URN and click the check box to accept entering the Aadhaar number.

STEP 3 - Click the "Enroll Now" button and the user will be taken to a page where they need to select the family member and enter their Aadhaar number and mobile number in the box provided.

STEP 4 - After entering the Aadhaar number and mobile number, click the submit button. The user will receive an OTP on the given mobile number. Enter that OTP in the box provided. A message will appear as "Your Aadhaar number registered successfully".

Benefits of CM Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme

The CMCHIS provides cashless hospitalization for certain specified ailments and procedures. The scheme now provides coverage up to ₹25 lakh per family per year on a floater basis for the ailments and procedures covered under the CM Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme. The scheme has broadened its coverage over the years and now includes more than 1,100 treatment procedures including the coverage of congenital anomalies. The scheme is run with United India Insurance Company and provides cashless treatment rather than direct payment to the beneficiaries. The coverage amount under the scheme has been increased from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹2 lakh and then to ₹5 lakh, and now to ₹25 lakh for surgical procedures. The scheme also covers migrant workers and orphans, who were earlier left out due to lack of documents, address and residence proof. With some amendments in the State Health Insurance Scheme, the government hopes to reach those workers and their children who have no or fewer documents.

• ₹25 lakh CMCHIS cover: The annual health insurance cover under CMCHIS has been raised from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh per family, giving higher financial protection for high-cost medical treatment.
• Multi-super-speciality hospital: The state approved ₹300 crore for a 400 bed multi-super-speciality hospital of international standards in Perambur, North Chennai.
• Cancer care mission: The Chief Minister's Cancer Care Mission will be upgraded at a cost of ₹673.44 crore, and a cancer treatment section will be created at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai at a cost of ₹471.98 crore.
• Gender-affirming surgeries: Medical services and surgeries for transgender persons will be offered at seven government medical college hospitals under the CMCHIS.
