West Bengal government's Student Credit Card Scheme (WBSCC) is accepting applications throughout the year at wbscc.wb.gov.in. Under this scheme, eligible students can get collateral-free education loans up to ₹10 lakh at a low 4% simple annual interest rate for higher studies.
The scheme covers students from Class 10 onwards, including undergraduate, postgraduate, professional, doctoral and post-doctoral courses, as well as coaching for competitive exams. Since its launch in June 2021, over 1 lakh loan applications have been sanctioned.
About WB Student Credit Card Scheme 2026
WB Student Credit Card Scheme is run by the Higher Education Department of West Bengal government to help students continue their studies without money problems. It is part of the "Arthik Shujog, Shobol Jubo" scheme. Students get a credit limit up to ₹10 lakh at 4% simple interest, with no collateral, no guarantor and no income limit.
The scheme was launched on 30 June 2021 under Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The state government acts as guarantor for the loan. Students can use the loan for tuition fees, hostel charges, books, laptops, exam fees and other study-related costs. Students can also check the Kanyaratna Education Grant Scheme and Medhashree Scholarship Scheme for additional study support.
WB Student Credit Card Scheme Apply Online
Students can apply online through the official WBSCC portal at wbscc.wb.gov.in or through Duare Sarkar camps. Here are the steps to apply online:-
STEP 1 - Visit the official portal at wbscc.wb.gov.in and click on the "Student Registration" link on the homepage.

STEP 2 - Register your profile by entering personal details, academic information and parent or guardian details. After registration, a Unique ID is sent to your registered mobile number.
STEP 3 - Log in with your Unique ID and password using the "Student Login" link at wbscc.wb.gov.in/Applicant_Login.

STEP 4 - Fill in the application form with your academic and banking details, and upload scanned copies of the required documents.
STEP 5 - Review and submit the application. The nodal officer at your institution verifies the details and forwards the application to the Higher Education Department and then to the designated bank for approval. The bank sanctions the loan and issues the Student Credit Card.

Eligibility of WB Student Credit Card Scheme
Here is the complete eligibility criteria to apply for the West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme:-
- Applicant must be a domicile of West Bengal and have lived in the state for at least 10 years.
- Age must be between 17 and 40 years at the time of applying.

Expenses Covered Under WB Student Credit Card Scheme
The loan amount can be used for a wide range of study-related expenses:-
- Fees paid to school, madrasa, college, university, professional institutes and competitive coaching institutes.
- Hostel or paying guest accommodation charges.
- Cost of books, digital devices, laptops and study material.
- Examination fees, study tours, project work and thesis submission costs.
Students studying in coaching institutes for competitive exams like Engineering, Medical, Law, IAS, IPS, WBCS and SSC can also avail the loan under this scheme. The loan is available through the State Cooperative Bank, its affiliated Central Cooperative Banks, District Central Cooperative Banks and public or private sector banks. There are no processing charges and no penalty for pre-payment.

Can I use the WB Student Credit Card loan to buy a laptop?
Yes. The scheme covers the cost of laptops, computers, books and study material needed to complete the course. Keep the purchase receipt as proof in case the bank asks for documentation.
Is there any income limit for my family to apply?
No. There is no income ceiling. Students from all economic backgrounds can apply, provided they meet the residency and enrolment criteria.
Can I apply if I am already in the middle of my course?
Yes. You can apply at any stage of your course as long as you meet the eligibility criteria. The loan covers expenses for the remaining duration of the programme, within the ₹10 lakh ceiling.
