Tripura government launched Solar Study Lamp (SSL) Scheme 2026 for students. In this Tripura Solar Study Lamp Scheme, the state government provides 6,00,000 environment-friendly solar study lamps to students belonging to poor families. Each student can get these Saur Urja Lamps at a token amount of just ₹ 10. The scheme was run in accordance with the SSL Scheme of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

In the first phase of Tripura Solar Study Lamp Scheme, 3 lakh solar study lamps were distributed while the remaining 3,00,000 were given in the second phase. Around 80% of the fund for the Tripura Solar Lamp Yojana was borne by the central government and the rest by the state government.
Former Deputy CM Jishnu Dev Varma initiated the supply of SSL at a function at Bishramganj in western Tripura on 11 March 2020. Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) is the State Nodal Agency for implementing Solar Lamp Scheme.
In the Tripura Solar Study Lamp Scheme, the government took a token amount of ₹ 10 from each beneficiary student. In the first phase, the state government provided SSL to 3 lakh poor students and in the second phase it supplied 3 lakh more solar study lamps. The state government had also approached the MNRE to sanction 3 lakh more SSL for the northeastern state because some tribal and remote villages do not get grid electricity for 24X7.
