Unemployment Assistance Scheme is a state-led scheme in Tamil Nadu that gives monthly cash support to educated unemployed youth who stay on the live register of their District Employment and Career Guidance Centre for several years. The Tamil Nadu Department of Employment and Training runs it, and applications are accepted from eligible youth across the state in 2026 as well.

Unemployment Assistance Scheme - Introduction

Unemployment Assistance Scheme was launched in 2006 by the Government of Tamil Nadu to give financial relief to educated youth who are waiting for stable employment. It mainly helps candidates registered with the District Employment and Career Guidance Centre who have completed five or more years on the live register. Differently abled job seekers can apply after just one year of registration, and there is no income or age ceiling for them.

Applications for 2026-26 have been invited by district administrations in Tamil Nadu. For example, Salem district invited applications in May 2026 for the 2026 to June 2026 period, and district employment offices continue to accept forms from qualified youth.

The scheme is still based on the existing Government Order till a new GO is officially released. A change in the monthly assistance amount has been reported unofficially, but no revised GO has been announced yet, so the amounts given below are the ones in force.
