Eligibility

A student is eligible to apply as a dependent ward of a police officer martyred in terror or naxalite violence. The following criteria must be met:

• The student must be enrolled in a first professional degree programme such as Engineering, Medicine, Dental, Veterinary, BBA, BCA, B. Pharma, B.Sc Nursing, B.Sc Agriculture, MBA or MCA as per official guidelines.
• New applicants must secure at least 60% marks in the Minimum Entry Qualification (MEQ), such as 10+2, Diploma or Graduation.
• For renewals, the student must pass each subsequent year of the professional course with at least 50% marks. A grace period of one year is allowed for delayed renewal applications.

Important Reminders:

• The scheme supports only two children per family.
• There are no rank restrictions for the deceased personnel.
• Marital status does not affect eligibility for this scholarship.
• A student who joined a professional Bachelor's degree (like B.Tech) in the second year through lateral entry after a diploma remains eligible.

Exclusions

A student cannot apply for this scheme under any of the following conditions:

• Ward of a civilian employee of a state or UT police force.
• Pursuing the course through correspondence or distance learning.
• Already receiving benefits from another scholarship or stipend.
• Already received this scholarship earlier.
• Pursuing a course that does not lead to a degree (like standard diploma courses), except for recognised professional programmes.
• Studying at an institution not approved by the UGC, AICTE or the relevant Medical Council.
• Studying abroad.
• Changing course or college after selection, as this leads to permanent cancellation of the scholarship.

Application Process

The application process is completed online through the National Scholarship Portal at National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The portal opened for the academic year 2026-27 from 1 June 2026 and accepts applications until 31 October 2026.

STEP 1 - Visit the official website of the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in and register as a student if not already registered.

STEP 2 - Generate the One Time Registration (OTR) number using Aadhaar or the Aadhaar Enrolment ID, as OTR is required to apply for scholarships from the academic year 2024-25 onwards.

STEP 4 - Fill in the form with the required details and upload the scanned copies of the required documents.
