PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) is a central government scheme running for the socio-economic development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in the country. This scheme provides critical support like pucca houses, clean drinking water, electricity, roads and connectivity to tribal families and habitations so that even the most remote tribal settlements get basic facilities.
PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan has been extended by the central government till March 2027 so that the unfinished works are completed and every eligible PVTG family is covered. The scheme runs with a total outlay of Rs.24,104 crore and covers 75 PVTG communities living in 18 states and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan - Introduction
PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) works to improve the socio-economic status of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). This scheme fills the gaps in health, education, and livelihoods by saturating tribal communities with basic facilities and services. It was launched by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs on 15 November 2023, and it provides 11 critical interventions through nine different ministries to make sure every household gets pucca houses, safe drinking water, road connectivity, electricity, and vocational training.
This scheme depends on a joint, inter-ministerial working style. While the Ministry of Tribal Affairs acts as the nodal ministry, each participating department runs its own centrally sponsored programs to give full coverage to tribal families and habitations.
Latest Update 2026
The central government has decided to keep PM JANMAN running till March 2027. Earlier this mission was planned for three years from 2023-24 to 2025-26, but since many works are still going on and some funds were not fully used, the term has been increased. Reports say the unspent money is being moved to focused tribal works like a tribal health observatory and tribal homestays, and state governments are choosing the habitations for these works.
PM JANMAN now runs along with a bigger umbrella scheme called Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (PM JUGA). This larger scheme, approved with an outlay of Rs.79,156 crore, aims to help more than 5 crore tribal people living in over 63,000 tribal-majority villages across 549 districts. While PM JANMAN focuses on around 28 lakh people in 22,000 PVTG villages, PM JUGA looks after all Scheduled Tribes living in tribal-majority villages and aspirational districts.
