Permanent Disability/ Death Benefit for the Construction Workers is a welfare scheme of the Sikkim Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, managed under the Labour Department. It pays ₹1,50,000 to the nominee or dependent of a registered construction worker who dies or becomes permanently disabled because of an accident at work.
This scheme continues to accept claims from eligible families in 2026. A worker registers with the board, files a nomination using Form XXXI, and the family can claim the benefit offline through the district Registering Officer and the Secretary's office.
Permanent Disability - Death Benefit for the Construction Workers - Introduction
The board runs this scheme for building and construction workers registered under the State Act. When a member dies or becomes permanently disabled during employment, the board releases the cash benefit to the person named in the nomination or to the dependent family. This money helps the family manage treatment costs, funeral expenses, or the loss of daily income.
Membership has to stay active for the claim to work. A worker who stops paying contributions for one year stops being a beneficiary, though membership can be taken up again up to two times by paying the arrears with the Secretary's permission.
The application process is completely offline. Workers and families should keep their identity card, nomination form, and accident-related papers ready before approaching the board.
