Meghalaya Sports and Wellness Centre Scheme offers financial support to individuals and registered firms to set up modern sports and wellness facilities across the state. It is now being run as a key sector under the Chief Minister's ELEVATE (CM-ELEVATE) flagship programme of the Government of Meghalaya, and applications remain open for eligible residents.

The scheme works through the Planning Department of the Government of Meghalaya. Its main aim is simple: help local people build gyms, swimming pools, football grounds and other fitness facilities so that public health and physical activity improve across the state. Under CM-ELEVATE, the programme gives a financial subsidy on the project cost and also ties the applicant to a bank loan so the project can actually take off.

Meghalaya Sports and Wellness Centre Scheme - Introduction

For a long time, Meghalaya residents who wanted to start a gym or a wellness centre found it hard to arrange the full capital. Banks were hesitant, and the upfront cost was heavy. This scheme was created to remove that hurdle by giving a direct subsidy on the project cost and linking the rest to a bank loan. Since it was brought under CM-ELEVATE, the coverage has widened and the process is handled through MeghalayaOne, the unified e-services portal of the state government.

One facility per district is given priority before a second approval is made for the same district. This keeps coverage fair and helps more districts get at least one modern sports and wellness centre. PRIME Meghalaya supports the selected applicants with mentoring and handholding so the facility runs well after it is built.

Because the scheme now falls under CM-ELEVATE, the support offered is 35% to 75% of the total project cost, with the exact share depending on the sector and the applicant category. For the sports and wellness sector, project cost can go up to about ₹3 crore, and the government subsidy can be as high as ₹75 lakh, with additional EMI support available for the borrower.

  • The remaining project amount is covered through a bank loan, so the entrepreneur does not need to arrange the full capital on their own.
