Madhya Pradesh government is running the Crime Victim Compensation Scheme in 2026 for people who have suffered injury or loss because of a crime, and their dependents. Money help goes up to ₹4 lakh in case of death of an earning member, and free treatment in government hospitals is part of the package.

Home Department of Madhya Pradesh runs this scheme, and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of each district takes the claim applications. Claims are decided within 60 days, and the approved amount is paid into the Aadhaar-linked bank account of the applicant.

Madhya Pradesh Crime Victim Compensation Scheme 2026

Scheme started in 2015 under section 357-A of the old CrPC, and it now works under section 396 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. Rules and payment limits are the same in 2026, so families of victims can still apply through their district DLSA office. Madhya Pradesh State Legal Services Authority keeps the current scheme copy on its website for anyone who wants to read the exact rules.

Cases covered are wide. Death, permanent disability, acid attack, rape and gang rape, sexual crime against minors, loss of an unborn child, and serious bodily injury all come under it. Children who lose parents in a crime also get support, and their money is kept safe till they grow up.

How to Apply for Crime Victim Compensation in Madhya Pradesh

Process is offline. No online form is required, and no fee has to be paid at any stage.

STEP 1 - Go to the District Legal Services Authority office in the district court complex of your district. Ask at the front desk for the victim compensation claim form. A court order or a recommendation from the trial court can also start the claim on its own.

STEP 2 - Fill the form with details of the incident, FIR number, police station name, and the loss suffered. Attach the FIR copy, medical papers, and identity proof along with it.

STEP 3 - Submit the form at the DLSA office and keep the receipt. Secretary of DLSA checks the papers, may call you for a short hearing, and can ask the police or hospital for a report.

STEP 4 - Wait for the decision. DLSA has to decide the amount within 60 days of getting the claim. In serious cases such as acid attack or rape, interim relief can be released earlier for first aid and treatment.

STEP 5 - Give your Aadhaar-linked bank passbook copy for payment. Approved money comes in one payment or in two parts. For a child victim, the amount goes into a fixed deposit that can be used for study or treatment.

Compensation Amount in 2026

Amount depends on the type of loss and whether the victim was an earning member of the family. Limits given below are the maximum, and DLSA can fix a lower amount after looking at the medical papers and the actual loss.

Loss or Injury Maximum Compensation
Death of earning member ₹4,00,000
Death of non-earning member ₹2,00,000
Loss of unborn child ₹50,000 with free treatment
100% permanent disability (earning) ₹3,00,000 with free treatment
100% permanent disability (non-earning) ₹1,50,000 with free treatment
40% permanent disability (earning) ₹2,00,000 with free treatment
40% permanent disability (non-earning) ₹1,00,000 with free treatment
Gang rape ₹3,00,000 with free treatment
Sexual crime against a minor ₹2,00,000 with free treatment
Acid attack with more than 40% disfigurement ₹3,00,000 with free treatment

For women and girls who face sexual assault, courts also apply the NALSA compensation scheme of 2018 when its amount is higher. Free treatment in government hospitals is available for injuries caused by the crime, and interim relief can be given for first aid once the police or a magistrate certifies the case.

Who Can Apply

Rules for eligibility are simple, but the papers must match the police record. Points below explain who is covered.

  • Any person who suffered physical injury, mental trauma or money loss because of a crime, or a dependent of a person who died in a crime.
  • Incident should have happened inside Madhya Pradesh. People living in the state can still get interim relief if the crime happened outside the state.
  • Crime should be reported to the police without long delay, and the applicant should cooperate in the investigation and trial.
  • Family income up to ₹5 lakh a year gets the full amount. Above that limit, only 50% of the fixed amount is paid.

Two types of cases are not covered. Road accident cases under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 go to the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal instead, and claims are rejected where the applicant himself caused the injury.

Documents Required

Keep photocopies of these papers ready before going to the DLSA office, and carry the originals for checking.

  • Copy of the FIR or police report of the incident.
  • Medical certificate or discharge summary showing the injury, disability percentage or post-mortem report in death cases.
  • Copy of the court order or recommendation, if the case is already in court.
  • Dependency certificate from the Tehsildar or another competent officer for dependents.
  • Aadhaar-linked bank passbook copy and identity proof of the victim or applicant.

Appeal and Help

If the decision of DLSA is not acceptable, an appeal can be filed with Madhya Pradesh State Legal Services Authority within 90 days, and after that with the Home Department within 30 days. Free legal help for filing the claim or appeal is available from the same DLSA office. National Legal Services Authority also runs the toll-free legal help number 15100 for guidance on victim compensation.

Money already paid can be recovered if a person is later found not eligible. State and district level committees review the cases from time to time, so keeping copies of every paper submitted is useful.

Readers looking at other state support may also check the Motor Vehicle Driver-Conductor Welfare Scheme for help after permanent disability in Madhya Pradesh.
