Goa government has launched Financial Assistance to Purchase Outboard Motor of 2HP to 5HP for Fitting to the Fishing Canoe to help local fishermen upgrade their traditional canoes. This scheme gives a direct cash subsidy for buying outboard motors ranging from 2HP to 5HP for fishing canoes below 26 feet.

General category fisherman gets 50% subsidy limited to ₹30,000 on a unit cost of ₹60,000. SC, ST and women category fisherman gets 60% subsidy limited to ₹36,000 on the same unit cost. You can apply for only one motor per canoe and repeat the application after five years. The canoe must be registered with the Department of Captain of Ports or the Directorate of Fisheries, Government of Goa.
