Central government runs the naturalfarming.dac.gov.in portal as the official online home for farmer registration under National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF). The portal was first launched on 3 November 2022 for the Bhartiya Prakritik Krishi Paddhati (BPKP) and has since become the main digital platform of the natural farming mission. Agriculture Ministry developed the राष्ट्रीय प्राकृतिक खेती मिशन portal to bring the whole mission, its progress and farmer registration under one roof.
NMNF is a standalone centrally sponsored scheme approved by the Union Cabinet on 25 November 2024. It is the restructured and upscaled form of the earlier BPKP sub-scheme, which was run under Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) from 2020-21 to 2022-23. The mission promotes chemical-free, ecosystem-based natural farming rooted in traditional knowledge and gives farmers an output-based incentive to adopt it.

About National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF)
National Mission on Natural Farming is a standalone centrally sponsored scheme approved by the Union Cabinet on 25 November 2024. It is a restructured form of the earlier Bhartiya Prakritik Krishi Paddhati (BPKP), which was implemented under Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) from 2020-21 to 2022-23. The mission is being run with a total outlay of ₹2,481 crore, with the Centre's share at ₹1,584 crore and the State share at ₹897 crore.
The mission targets natural farming in 7.5 lakh hectare area across 15,000 clusters, setting up 10,000 need-based Bio-input Resource Centres (BRC) for easy availability of natural farming inputs, and creating awareness among 1 crore farmers. Each cluster is formed of a contiguous area of about 50 hectare and roughly 125 farmers. New farmers can join a natural farming cluster at the start of each crop season.
Natural farming is a chemical-free farming method that uses livestock, preferably a local breed of cow, and diversified crop systems rooted in Indian traditional knowledge. It reduces the dependency on externally purchased chemical inputs and improves soil health and moisture through multi-crop systems and biomass mulching.
Incentive and Support under NMNF
An output-based incentive of ₹4,000 per acre per year per farmer for 2 years, up to a maximum of 1 acre per farmer, is provided under the scheme. This support is meant for practicing natural farming, training, upkeep of livestock and preparation of natural farming inputs. The mission also supports a simple certification system and a common national brand for naturally grown chemical free produce.
Two Krishi Sakhis or Community Resource Persons (CRPs) are deployed in each natural farming cluster to guide farmers on natural farming practices. Training is provided through Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), agricultural universities and local natural farming institutions at model demonstration farms.
Progress of the Mission
As per the latest official updates, more than 10 lakh farmers have been enrolled under the mission, 1,100 natural farming model farms have been developed, and 806 training institutions have been involved. Over 70,000 Krishi Sakhis have been trained in soil health and natural farming practices. Around 7,934 Bio-input Resource Centres have been identified, out of which 2,045 have been set up. The natural farming certification system is being run by National Centre for Organic and Natural Farming (NCONF), Ghaziabad under the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) India.
Benefits of National Mission on Natural Farming
National Mission on Natural Farming brings several benefits to farmers and the environment:-
- It helps farmers cut down the cost of cultivation by reducing dependence on externally purchased chemical inputs and improves farmer income.
- It improves soil health and moisture content through multi-crop systems, biomass mulching and natural inputs like cow dung and cow urine.
- It builds climate resilience in agriculture and helps farmers cope with extreme weather events.
- It creates a common national brand and simple certification system for naturally grown chemical free produce, helping farmers sell their products.
- It promotes integrated agriculture and animal husbandry models based on local cow breeds and local resources.
- The naturalfarming.dac.gov.in portal collects, validates and documents natural farming practices being followed in different parts of the country.
