Kerala government's Abhayakiranam Scheme is accepting online applications at the official scheme application portal of the Women and Child Development Department. Under this scheme, close relatives who provide protection and shelter to destitute and homeless widows get monthly financial support of ₹1,000. The scheme page was last updated on the state e-services dashboard in May 2026, which means the scheme is still open for new applications.

The main aim of Abhayakiranam Scheme is to give destitute and homeless widows a safe and better living environment with their own family. Instead of sending these widows to institutions, the government encourages close relatives to keep them at home and look after them. The relative who gives shelter and daily care receives the monthly payment to cover the expenses of looking after the widow. In the first phase, the state government approved ₹99 lakh for the scheme and gave support to around 200 widows at ₹1,000 each for six months.

Earlier this scheme was handled by the Social Justice Department, but now the Women and Child Development Department runs it. The online application is available at the official scheme application portal of the department. In this article, we will tell you about how to apply online for this scheme, eligibility criteria, documents required and complete details.
