Ishan Uday Scholarship Scheme 2026
Main objectives of Ishan Uday Scholarship Scheme are given below:
- To provide equal opportunities for higher studies in NE Region.
- To increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in NE Region.
- To focus more on professional education in NE Region.
- Optimum use of NER Budgetary Allocation.
Under Ishan Uday Scholarship Scheme, Rs. 5,400 per month is given for general degree courses and Rs. 7,800 per month for technical, medical, professional and paramedical courses. As per the official UGC page, the total financial assistance is about Rs. 80,000 per annum. The scholarship is paid through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into the bank account of the student.
Eligibility for Ishan Uday Scholarship
Students who meet the following conditions can apply for Ishan Uday Scholarship 2026-27:
- Passed Class XII or equivalent examination from a school situated within NER through a recognized Board of Education.
- Took admission in the first year of a UG degree course in regular or full time mode.
- Parental annual income from all sources should be below Rs. 4.5 lakh.
- Course should be a recognized UG degree programme as notified by UGC. For integrated and dual degree courses, the scholarship is payable for the UG component only.
Documents Required
Following documents have to be uploaded at the time of applying on the National e-Scholarship Portal:
- Domicile certificate issued by the competent authority.
- Proof of annual income issued by the competent authority.
- For renewals, annual progress report and continuation of studies certificate verified by the concerned university, institution or college.
How to Apply for Ishan Uday Scholarship
Applications are invited once in a year on the National Scholarship Portal of the Government of India. A short notification is also uploaded on the UGC website. The portal for academic year 2026-27 is open from 1 June 2026 onwards. Students should check the NSP website for the exact closing date of the application window.
STEP 1 - Visit the official website at National Scholarship Portal and complete the One Time Registration (OTR) using Aadhaar or Aadhaar Enrolment ID. OTR is required to apply for scholarships on NSP from academic year 2024-25 onwards.
STEP 2 - Login with the OTR number and fill in the Ishan Uday Scholarship application form with personal, academic and bank details.
STEP 3 - Upload the required documents like domicile certificate and income proof, then submit the application before the last date.
STEP 4 - Take a printout of the submitted application form and keep it safe. The university, institution or college will verify the application online.
Renewal and Duration
Scholarship is given for 3 to 5 years, which is the full duration of the first degree course. It is renewed every year subject to good conduct and prescribed attendance. Students need to upload the annual progress report given by the administrative head of the university, institution or college. Students who fail to get promoted to the next class lose the scholarship. Change of course is not allowed and the scholarship stands forfeited if the course is changed.
Selection Procedure
UGC awards 10,000 fresh scholarships every year. Slots are distributed among the states of NER on the basis of the latest census population. If slots remain vacant in any state, they are distributed equitably among other states. Reservation for persons with disability is followed as per Government of India norms.
