Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan (GKRA)
Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan was started with a mission to address the issues of returnee migrant workers and similarly affected rural population by Covid-19 pandemic through a multipronged strategy of:-
- providing immediate employment and support for the distressed,
- saturating villages with public infrastructure and
- creation of livelihood assets to boost the income generation activities and
- improving long term livelihood opportunities by giving focus on 25 works in 116 districts across 6 states with a resource envelope of Rs 50,000 crore.
Abhiyan covered 116 districts across 6 states: Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. These districts were chosen because they had a large number of returning migrant workers.
As per Ministry of Rural Development, Abhiyan generated 50.78 crore person days of work with a total spend of Rs 39,293 crore. This shows how the scheme helped lakhs of people during the pandemic period.
